Hero PC Steps in to Save Boys Life

A police constable has been branded a hero after he saved a boy’s life during an off-duty cruise holiday. PC James Bremner of Bicester Police Station was on a Royal Caribbean cruise around France and Spain with his family in May 2014, where he resuscitated a youngster who was found unconscious at the bottom of a swimming pool (as we reported here). The 37-year-old constable was on the top deck of Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas vessel watching a film on the cinema screen when he heard a commotion from the pool area below. Mr Bremner observed one of the waiters lifting the boy out of the pool and when no one began CPR he rushed to provide assistance. The boy’s feet and lips had turned blue, his eyes had dilated and he had no pulse. The constable rolled the six-year-old onto his side, which caused water to flow out of his mouth and nose. He then began CPR and asked a female American passenger to begin chest compressions while he maintained the airway. Recalling the event, Mr Bremner said: “All that was going through my mind was that this boy is dead. His eyes were open and they were completely black. “I was convinced there was no hope, but you can’t stop – you have to keep going. I couldn’t find a pulse, but the American lady...

1 in 5 People Admit to Cheating on a Cruise

The www.CRUISE.co.uk team recently wrote an article about sexual health on cruise ships (which you can read here) and how many cruise lines now stocked sexual health products like condoms, sexual lubrication and pregnancy test kits.   MSC Cruises came top of our list, stocking all of the above as well as providing the morning after pill on prescription. When asked to comment Giles Hawke, MSC Cruises executive director of UK & Ireland, said: “We are committed to ensuring that all of our guests have a safe and worry-free holiday, and part of that means having on-board shops stocked for all eventualities.”   Following on from the article we decided to poll our 200,000 strong cruise community to find out just what does go on aboard cruise ships after they leave port and we’re not sure what we’re more surprised by – the results of the survey or what people were happy to admit to!   When asked nearly one in five people admitted that yes, they had in fact cheated on their significant other whilst on a cruise. Perhaps more surprising though was the follow on question…..     81.51% admitted that yes they were! Where? How? The www.CRUISE.co.uk team have done a lot of cruises over the years but with the exception of the odd swinger’s cruise (which we haven’t tried by the way) we can’t say...

Eight Reasons Everyone Should Try An MSC Cruise At Least Once – Especially If You Have Kids!

One question: have you ever booked a cruise with MSC? The www.CRUISE.co.uk are big fans of the Italian-based cruise line and we have so many questions for those of you who haven’t sailed with this fleet. First off, why not? The line goes from glamorous to kid friendly, from a focus on the sea to majorly technologically advances. You see, the problem is that there are a lot of misconceptions that float around regarding MSC and a lot of Brits head out on an MSC cruise expecting it to be very similar to other cruise lines they’ve cruised with in...

Why the Costa Concordia has Made Cruising Safer

The 13th January saw the anniversary of one of the worst (and most avoidable) disasters of the modern cruising era. We are, of course, talking about the sinking of the Costa Concordia and the tragic loss of thirty two lives on the 13th January 2012. There’s been a lot written about that ill-fated night (which you can read here) but three years on we thought we’d put out a poll to our cruise community of over 200,000 people to find out how the tragedy had affected people’s opinions on cruising as a holiday choice. Perhaps the silver lining to the accident was the adoption of ten new safety precautions (see below) by the cruise industry to standardise and improve safety on-board cruise ships. Clearly these new measures have gone a long way in in reassuring holiday makers interested in a cruise as 70% of respondents we surveyed felt that not only were safety procedures clearly explained they had also massively improved since the sinking. Perhaps as an industry the cruise lines still have a little way to go though as nearly one in five cruisers (16.28% to be exact) felt that safety procedures were still confusing with room for improvement. Although perhaps most worrying statistic to come from the survey was the fact that 7% of cruisers were happy to admit that they either never attend or never pay...

Disney to the Rescue

When a twenty two year-old man fell overboard from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship he thought it was game over but thanks to a passing Disney Cruise Line vessel he was rescued just five hours later. The man, who was not identified by authorities, somehow managed to fall overboard from the Oasis of the Seas vessel as it was sailing off the coast of Cozumel, Mexico, on January 8th 2015. CCTV footage on-board Oasis of the Seas showed that the man was alone when he fell. Scott Campbell was on-board the Disney Magic cruise ship with his daughter when...
