The Cruise Community Has Spoken

You may not have heard but the www.CRUISE.co.uk team were very pleased last year to have once again been named the World’s Leading Cruise Community (as well as the World’s Leading Cruise Travel Agent of course!). December marked the sixth time that we’d been awarded the prestigious title in the World Travel Awards and we couldn’t be prouder of that fact. However, we obviously couldn’t have done it without you! Therefore we decided to put together the www.CRUISE.co.uk Cruise Community Awards to truly honour our community of dedicated cruisers. We knew there was already a lot of cruise awards out there but we...

Major Cruise Line Abolishes Formal Nights

Celebrity Cruises have announced that they’ll be getting rid of the formal nights in which cruisers are required to dress up to the nines. The formal night dress code is being relaxed across the fleet and will no longer require a jacket and tie. They’ll now be known as “evening chic” nights instead. Celebrity Cruises have moved to reassure guests, explaining that evening chic will be dressier than the smart casual wear that is worn on most evenings but won’t be as dressy as formal wear. The change in dress codes is apparently due to an evolving passenger mix. The vice president of hotel operations for Celebrity explained: “As we’re watching our guests, we see this is how they’re vacationing. They are becoming more casual but at the same time, still sophisticated. They still want great food and great service, but they want to experience it in a more relaxed, casual way.”   For some cruisers though, dressing up for formal nights and dinner is half of the fun. That being said, certain clothes are still not acceptable for evening chic as ripped jeans, shorts and t-shirts won’t be allowed under any circumstances. As well as this, the Captain’s Reception drinks will now reflect where you’re sailing to. Instead of just being handed a sparkling wine, you’ll have a drink relating to your destination. For example if you’re sailing in...

17 Of The Worst Cruise Souvenirs EBay Has To Offer

Have you ever gone on a cruise and accidentally come away with part of the ship? We don’t mean the anchor – perhaps more like a pen you took from your cabin or perhaps, (more unusually) a coat hanger? Or else have you ever bought a particularly tacky cruise ship souvenir? The www.CRUISE.co.uk team have recently seen a strange influx of cruise goodies popping up on EBay. There is everything weird and wonderful, from cruise ship spoons to the slippers you are given in your room! Would you buy any of these items? We’re not sure we would…   A Cunard Coat Hanger Really? A coat hanger?! We feel a bit saddened for the person who made off from their cabin with this.   A Carnival Cruise Ship Mascot Ever wanted a strange pink toy creature with the Carnival Funnel on his head? Well now you can get one!   A Crystal Cruises Pencil We’ve all taken the pen from our room before on a cruise… But have you ever tried to sell yours?   A 1938 Cruise Brochure We admit that this piece of memorabilia is better than a pencil but would you want a brochure from 1938?   Celebrity Cruises Swizzle Stick Now you can pretend you’re making cocktails on a cruise in your own kitchen with the power of these wooden swizzle sticks…   Princess Cruises Circle...

More Great News For British Travelers

Thomson Cruises have just announced the exciting news via their Facebook Page that they’ll be adding two new cruise ships to their fleet. Currently being operated by TUI Cruises, the Mein Schiff 1 and 2 will be added to their fleet in 2018 and 2019 respectively although it’s yet to be decided where these two ships will be home porting or sailing to. It wasn’t that long ago that Thomson announced the addition of Royal Caribbean’s Splendour of the Seas to their fleet (you can read more about the Thomson Discovery here). For those that don’t have an encyclopaedic knowledge of cruise ships, the Mein Schiff 1 was previously owned by Celebrity Cruises and known as the Celebrity Galaxy (so is based on a Celebrity Century design) but was then bought by TUI and given a €50 million refit. She can hold almost 2,700 passengers and currently has three pools which include an indoor freshwater pool with two outdoor salt water pools as well as a Japanese style AquaSpa. It also has a two floor restaurant and stylish art deco interiors. Mein Schiff 2 was also previously owned by Celebrity before TUI cruises operated her and can hold 1886 passengers. With three new ships announced in this year alone, it seems Thomson Cruises have plans to rapidly expand. What do you think about Thomson buying these two ships? Will...

Cruising’s Best Kept Secret! Book A 6 Star Cruise On A 4 Star Budget

Cruising always has (and probably always will) come in several different ‘classes’. There’s your 4* cruise lines that perhaps the most of us will be familiar which includes the likes of Royal Caribbean, Fred Olsen and P&O. Then you can take a step up to your 5* cruise lines like Celebrity Cruises or Cunard. Finally, for the lucky few, there’s the ultra-luxurious, ultra-exclusive 6* cruise lines like Seabourn, Crystal Cruises or Regent Seven Seas. Now unless you’re one of the lucky few who can afford to cruise every year with the likes of Regent Seven Seas you may have pigeon holed them in your mind as forever out of your reach. The thing is though…. You couldn’t be more wrong! One of cruising’s biggest kept secrets is that a lot of the time cruising with a 6* cruise line like Regent can actually be cheaper than cruising with the likes of P&O! Don’t believe us? We get the up-front cost of the brochure can put a lot of people off but what you need to do is stop and consider the holiday as a whole. Due to the nature of luxury cruising, once you’ve made the cost of the cruise nearly everything is then included for you. Think for a minute how much did you spend on you last cruise… Then think how much you paid for flights, getting...
