Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few days you can’t have failed to see the news regarding the sad demise of the travel institution that was Thomas Cook. Travel has faced some terrible obstacles over the past few years – bird flu, terrorism and financial uncertainty to name just three, but in my heart I never thought that a company that had been around for so long would disappear virtually overnight.

This is the song I could not get out of my head last week when I was talking to one of my customers about the legendary Rocky Mountaineer train. They have been lucky enough to experience this fantastic journey earlier this year and as it was for a special birthday they opted to upgrade to the Gold Leaf service on board the train.

Okay, so I am back from my fantastic holiday in Sorrento but it’s not me I am talking about!
Well, when you read this I will be hopefully sunning myself in stunning Sorrento.
Who has been there? Was it a land based holiday or was it a port of call?
I have visited the area just once a few years ago when it was a port of call on one of Oceania’s ships, and I have to say that from just the brief time I had there I thought it was a wonderful place and was definitely on my returns list.
