Cunard books James Taylor for transatlantic Queen Mary cruise

One of the US’ most celebrated singer-songwriters will be making a triumphant return to the Queen Mary 2 this summer, five years after he first played the iconic ocean liner. Cunard confirmed yesterday (July 9th) that James Taylor will be performing twice on the cruise ship’s upcoming transatlantic crossing, which departs New York on August 27th and lands in Southampton eight days later.  Taylor, the winner of multiple Grammy awards and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, rose to fame in the 70s on the back of songs like You’ve Got a Friend and Fire and Rain – commonly considered to be some of the greatest hits of all time.  He first played the Queen Mary 2 in 2009 to standing room only audiences. For the two concerts this summer, he will play the cruise ship’s resplendent Royal Court Theatre.  The booking marks the tenth anniversary of the vessel, which made its maiden voyage from Southampton to Fort Lauderdale in 2004.  “Our guests will be thrilled to enjoy this intimate concert experience with a music icon, which will make this milestone crossing that much more memorable,” commented David Dingle, chief executive of Cunard.  Have you ever seen any famous names perform on a cruise ship? Can you share any highlights? Why not discuss this topic...

Here are our inside cabin recommendations that will add a special touch to your cruise holiday. Balcony, schmalcony………. Royal Caribbean Promenade View An inside cabin with a view? “Impossible”, we hear you cry! But it is possible when you book a promenade stateroom on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis, Freedom and Voyager Class ships. These stylish staterooms look out over the shops, eateries and activities of the ship’s Royal Promenade so they’re perfect for people watchers (read, nosy parkers!). If space is a deal-breaker for you, choose an Oasis class ship where you’ll get 194sqft to play with. Book Oasis, or Freedom, and you may be in for a big surprise....
