All aboard the new cruise ships in Liverpool

As 2014 draws to a close, the Liverpool cruise terminal is preparing for a busy year ahead, with the addition of 54 new cruise ships. Many of these will include new vessels and cruise liners that will first take to the waters along the Mersey to the historic port. The main highlight of the season will be two events to commemorate Cunard Cruise Line’s 175th anniversary. Cunard’s first ever ship, Britannia, set sail 175 years ago and headed to America. Since then, the cruise line has become renowned for its luxury cruising experiences and has built up a reputable fanbase among frequent passengers and newcomers alike. On May 25th 2015, the Cunard fleet will arrive on the Mersey, creating a much anticipated Three Queens spectacle that is sure to go down in maritime history. The second event is set to take place on July 4th 2015, which will see the Cunard flagship Queen Mary Two return to Liverpool to mark Britannia’s departure exactly 175 years earlier. A series of events will also be held across the city to celebrate the excitement of the cruise industry and how Liverpool has contributed to popularising cruise travel across the globe. The introduction of the 54 ships is expected to bring more than 80,000 international visitors to the city. Among the large cruise liners making their debut on the Mersey in 2015 are...

The Most Luxurious Ship Ever Built

If you regularly embark on cruises but are looking for a holiday experience like no other, the new Seven Seas Explorer may be the answer. Deemed ‘the most luxurious ship ever built’, the high-quality vessel is the brainchild of Prestige Holdings, which includes Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. This month, Jason Montague was named president of the cruise line, taking over the role from Kunal Kamlani. Speaking about the new vessel, Mr Montague said: “We’re building the most luxurious ship ever created, and our loyal guests and travel agent partners are eagerly awaiting detailed information about Seven Seas Explorer. “This dedicated microsite provides us with a platform to provide our passionate brand advocates with the latest updates and exciting developments surrounding this extraordinary new ship from now through launch.” Prestige Holdings and Oceania Cruises were recently acquired by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. Together with the arrival of Seven Seas Explorer, the refurbishment of Princess Cruises‘ Ocean Princess by Oceania and the construction of the Norwegian Escape, the company fleet will be comprised of 24 ships. In addition, the Norwegian Bliss will arrive in 2017, followed by two Breakaway Plus Class ships in 2018 and 2019. Currently being constructed at the Fincantieri shipyards in Genoa, Seven Seas Explorer is the fourth addition to the luxury fleet, following the Seven Seas Mariner, Seven Seas Voyager and Seven Seas Navigator....

Princess Cruises Says No to Ukraine and West Africa

Princess Cruises has cancelled ports of call in Ukraine and West Africa amid political unrest and the continuing risk of Ebola.   The cruise liner has cut two ports of call in Ukraine; scheduled calls to both Yalta and Odessa have been replaced with visits to Khios, Greece and Romania. In a statement to Julie Benson, vice president of public relations at Princess Cruises, said: “In light of the ongoing political unrest, we made the early decision to cancel these calls and modify the itinerary.” In total, 12 sailings have been changed.”   Princess is not the first line to call of scheduled visits to the country with Azamara Club Cruises, Oceania and Windstar Cruises also cancelling their stops in the nation. As Ukraine’s political unrest continues, it is unknown when liners will start to feel more comfortable about visiting the area but it is not the only issue they have to deal with at the moment.   Ebola has continued to make the news for a number of weeks now, with cases of the suspected virus emerging in many different areas of the globe. This has put the travel industry on red alert, causing them to step up their preventative measures and stay away from areas known to have cases of the disease. Princess Cruises is the latest liner to change its journeys as a result of the...
