The Definitive Guide to Ultra Luxury Cruising

By it’s very nature, cruising is luxurious. How could it not be? A cruise holiday always has and always will be one of, if not the most luxurious forms of travel. However, to paraphrase George Orwell – All cruise ships are luxurious but some are more luxurious than others, and there is exactly where choosing a cruise line can be difficult some times. What is luxury? How do you define it? It’s easy enough to say you recognise luxury once you’ve experienced it, but that doesn’t help when you’re trying to choose between ultra luxury, six star cruise ships. Why the Costa Concordia has Made Cruising Safer

The 13th January saw the anniversary of one of the worst (and most avoidable) disasters of the modern cruising era. We are, of course, talking about the sinking of the Costa Concordia and the tragic loss of thirty two lives on the 13th January 2012. There’s been a lot written about that ill-fated night (which you can read here) but three years on we thought we’d put out a poll to our cruise community of over 200,000 people to find out how the tragedy had affected people’s opinions on cruising as a holiday choice. Perhaps the silver lining to the accident was the adoption of ten new safety precautions (see below) by the cruise industry to standardise and improve safety on-board cruise ships. Clearly these new measures have gone a long way in in reassuring holiday makers interested in a cruise as 70% of respondents we surveyed felt that not only were safety procedures clearly explained they had also massively improved since the sinking. Perhaps as an industry the cruise lines still have a little way to go though as nearly one in five cruisers (16.28% to be exact) felt that safety procedures were still confusing with room for improvement. Although perhaps most worrying statistic to come from the survey was the fact that 7% of cruisers were happy to admit that they either never attend or never pay...

Princess Cruises Says No to Ukraine and West Africa

Princess Cruises has cancelled ports of call in Ukraine and West Africa amid political unrest and the continuing risk of Ebola.   The cruise liner has cut two ports of call in Ukraine; scheduled calls to both Yalta and Odessa have been replaced with visits to Khios, Greece and Romania. In a statement to Julie Benson, vice president of public relations at Princess Cruises, said: “In light of the ongoing political unrest, we made the early decision to cancel these calls and modify the itinerary.” In total, 12 sailings have been changed.”   Princess is not the first line to call of scheduled visits to the country with Azamara Club Cruises, Oceania and Windstar Cruises also cancelling their stops in the nation. As Ukraine’s political unrest continues, it is unknown when liners will start to feel more comfortable about visiting the area but it is not the only issue they have to deal with at the moment.   Ebola has continued to make the news for a number of weeks now, with cases of the suspected virus emerging in many different areas of the globe. This has put the travel industry on red alert, causing them to step up their preventative measures and stay away from areas known to have cases of the disease. Princess Cruises is the latest liner to change its journeys as a result of the...
