Cruise Line Cracks Down – No More BYOB

Carnival have announced that they’re cracking down on bring your own booze – by banning passengers from even bringing soft drinks on-board! Bottled water, soft drinks and non-alcoholic drinks will not be allowed after July 9th. All staff will be permitted to confiscate bottles with only soft drinks packaged in cans or cartons being accepted. Carnival say its efforts are aimed at stopping alcohol being smuggled on-board its ships. It should also speed up the check in process, as all bottles are currently having to be searched by staff members. Spokeswoman Jennifer De La Cruz explained: “This is something that we’ve been grappling with for quite some time. “The main goal is to try to ensure safety for our guests and to decrease the likelihood of a security incident that’s tied to smuggled alcohol.” Carnival went on to say that: “when behavioural issues occur on board and are ultimately investigated, smuggled alcohol often appears to be a factor. “Hence, to ensure an enjoyable experience for all guests and crew, we are modifying our beverage policy.” However, passengers will still be allowed to bring one bottle of wine with them, as long as they are over the age of 21. Do you think this will help stop rowdy behaviour on cruises? Or do you think this is a sneaky move to increase on-board purchases? Let us know in the comments below!...

Casual Cruising: No Tux Required!

Cruising in the 21st century just keeps on getting better, with more and more innovation on-board than you can shake a stick at! Super hi-tech gadgets, Wi-Fi speeds that match those on land and quicker embarkation are just three of the features that cruisers on Royal Caribbean’s latest megaships can look forward to but sometimes it’s the simplest of things that can make a passenger smile and for those of us who like informality, casual cruises are that simple thing! Casual cruises may be very different to what old-school cruising veterans may be used to or what firt time cruisers imagine cruising to be but for those who prefer not to cram their case with tuxedos, diamonds (or cubic zirconias – ssssh, we won’t tell), skyscraper heels and sequinned pashminas, the option for a casual break sailing on the oceans is like a refreshing sea breeze. Whilst some formal cruise lines still exist, where elegance and formality are key and dressing up to the nines is both required and relished (*cough* Cunard *cough*), it does seem that the tide is turning. More and more cruise lines are opting for the more laidback approach, where people can feel comfortable in a posh frock or tux or dressed down in a pair of chinos or a sundress…where guests can relax with their kids and not worry about people complaining about the...

Getting a certain type of man onboard with booking a cruise holiday can be a bit of a task. Active types might worry about ‘being trapped’ on a ship during sea days and getting bored. Some may have a misconception about a cruise holiday being the same as a ‘lie around the pool holiday’, only with no escape, whereas others aren’t keen on the formal reputation of cruising and can’t think of anything worse than having to suit up for posh dinners every evening. If you’re trying to persuade the man in your life that cruising is a good...

However, MSC’s virtual cruise will go one step further, by giving passengers the chance to sit in the ship’s theatre to watch a show, as well as give them scents such as freshly baked bread, chocolate, fruit or rosemary. It will launch at Expo 2015 in Milan which will run from May 1 to Oct 31. Would you like to try the virtual experience? Let us know in the comments below!  ...
