Costa Cruises receives new Costa Diadema ship

Costa Cruises has received its Costa Diadema ship after Fincantieri finished building the vessel. Constructed at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard, the vessel will be the flagship of the Costa fleet. The company has invested 550 million euros in the construction of the highly advanced ship. Around 1,000 shipyard workers and 2,500 subcontractors have contributed to the work, along with around 400 contracted suppliers. The Costa Diadema is the 12th cruise ship built in Italy by Fincantieri for Costa Diadema and the total investment is more than five billion euros. The vessel weighs 132,500 gross tonnes and is more than 300 metres long and 37 metres wide. It also has a total of 1,862 guest cabins and will offer a range of Italian lifestyle, entertainment, gastronomy and hospitality. The ship’s interior design has been made to be cosier, roomier and more contemporary. As well as this, the vessel offers large, split-level rooms that directly overlook the sea, helping to create the atmosphere of an Italian seaside resort. Once the ship is delivered, Costa Diadema will sail from Venice on October 30th before reaching Trieste, where the vernissage cruise will begin on November 1st and call at Dubrovnik, Corfu, Malta and Naples before ending in Genoa on November 7th when it will be christened. Giuseppe Bono, chief executive officer of Fincantieri S.p.A. said: “Costa Diadema is the 44th cruise ship we...

Viking – Bringing the River to an Ocean near You

Viking Cruises have dominated their niche in the cruising industry and well and truly sailed (along the rivers of the world) with it. Having become the fastest growing river cruise provider in the seventeen years since its inception the company has decided that this isn’t enough for their high-flying (or not, as the case may be) aspirations. Nope! They now want to break the ocean cruise market too, providing small-ship ocean cruises for those who want to sail across the open seas as often as they love cruising along the rivers.   What can they provide though, that hasn’t...

Celebrity has announced a new series of cruises for the 2015 to 2016 season that will allow passengers to witness some of the world’s most iconic events. Called the Signature Event Sailings, the cruises will commemorate occasions such as the 100th anniversary of Anzac Day in Turkey and the Cannes Film Festival, taking tourists to the events themselves as well as treating them to themed on-board activities.   Other highlights of the season include a visit to the Redentore Festival, held in Venice since 1577, which will constitute part of a 14-night tour of Turkey and the Black Sea. Passengers will be able to watch fireworks from St Marks’ Basin and attend a poolside event inspired by a Venetian masked ball. This includes access to the city’s Sambadrome to check out the Samba Parade from grandstand or VIP seating. Would you be interested in a cruise designed around a major cultural...
