Your question was only about phoning home!!! I think we are on the same cruise as you so will look forward to seeing some newlyweds. We have just had an information booklet turn up, all details re phoning are contained in it.
You can use the phone in your cabin to phone home but, as it uses satellite communications, will be quite expensive. All details will be located with the rest of your ships information in your cabin otherwise the Purser's desk will be able to assist. If you are near land you may be able to use your mobile phone but you will need a tri band phone for islands using the US mobile standard or possibly a quad band phone for some other islands. I don't know if you had considered this but it is possible to view weddings over the internet as Grand Princess has a wedding cam. Either way, very best wishes to you both.
You also may be able to use for mobile to call home whilst at sea. It will be expensive..but then it IS a once in a lifetime-type event! Note that, as you will be using the ships sat com system, you may not get through first time and the length of each call might be capped (its 10 mins on Oceana).
As Bradley says, if you want to save a packet and are prepared to wait, a much cheaper option would be to hold off until you are next in port and use normal land-based mobile services.
All the best!
Are you really sure that that is how you want them to find out? I would be really miffed if I learned that way by maybe I'm a traditionalist. Just checking ..... Neil.
Sorry i agree with neil and ida i wouldnt be very happy if my daughter or son phoned me and told me they were married at sea, then everyone to there own choice i suppose, anyway if you do have a lovely time.
You can use the ships satelite phone, not too expensive for such a memorable occasion. Are not your parents worth it? They are going to be shocked to say the least. I do not think I would be able to do what you are planning! But obviously we all differ in our plans, do think about what you will be dropping on them! We could not have not shared our SPECIAL day without our parents. Long gone now, but so many, many memories of our special day! 40 years ago. Have a wonderful life together whatever you decide.
I would be devastated if my son did what you are planning to do. Please think very carefully about this. Will your parents be happy to receive a phone call to say you are married at sea? In the long run will you not regret having your family and friends around you on your big day? Of course there might be more to it than we readers know about and you might have thought this through already. I wish you luck whatever you decide. Best wishes. Ann .
I was on Crown Princess in the Caribbean last February and had no signal on my mobile phone when out at sea, in fact had no signal after leaving San Juan until returning there a week later. One man spent most of his day trying to locate his wife on the ship but neither had a signal!!
Well I hope you have a good think about this I would be heart broken if I got a call telling me that my child had got married without telling me but to do it on Christmas Day!!!
What have they done to deserve such treatment.
Hiya. Mobile signal isn't always the best on board, but there are phones in the rooms you can use - definitely not cheap though!
