Wilba - Answered a Question by Bowker (02 Feb 09 17:13)

You can fly Continental from MCR or BHX & change at Newark (EWR) for SJU. The changeover is far less painful & quicker than a drive to Gatwick....Wilba.

Agree with that one - we went SJU - EWR - MAN all Continental, and so being late into Newark wasn't a problem as it was booked as a connecting flight. Don't mix your airlines though or you could have problems if delayed.

There is no such thing as a direct flight from any UK airport to SJU. All go via a US airport.

There was once direct flights to San Juan - I took one from Gatwick to Puerto Rico Easter 2007 with Thomsonfly when holidaying with Princess Cruises. It was horrendous! Took over an hour to be photographed and finger printed by security/immigration. The flight back was worse. We had to use a machine to check out of Puerto Rico. One had broke, the other two were the only ones in use for over 250 passengers. There was no board announcing arrivals or departures (unless you were American Airlines) and the flight info at the gate barely noticeable (Printed A4 sheet of paper!). 'Strangely' they (Princess) don't do direct flights now to Peurto Rico! Hopefully you will have better luck flying to a 'US gateway' and then onto San Juan! P.S. Puerto Rico is quite a nice place!

Hello, we flew fromGatwick London to San Juan 2 years ago to hook up with our cruise on Crown princess. It was fine going out, but coming back we had to change at New York then on to London. We flew out with a flight which was chartered by princess but had to come back with Americn Airlines.

BLYTH - Answered a Question by Bowker (03 Feb 09 15:46)

We went with Celebrity on Galaxy out of Purto Rico London to Miami then onto Purto Rice on the way back via Boston, problem there was we left Puerto at 29 degrees and when we landed it was heavy snow and minus 18 what a change and just after we landed the airport closed and we were stuck there for 3 days, but it didn't spoil what was a great cruise. On both going and coming back from Puerto Rico it was Squeazy Jet style you had to buy food although some things were FREE !!!

Hello Blyth thanks for the info, I am also looking at Celebrity, but the Millennium out of San Juan. May I ask if you booked your own flights? I am in the process of checking out flight costs to San Juan and all my costing to date are coming up with flights at about £600 each which puts me off this cruise, I am checking the flights to Charleston and they can be found at £375 each which makes it more attractive. If you did you own flights are £600 about right or should I be able to find them cheaper? Sounds like you enjoyed the itinerary. Regards.

Puerto Rico The Isles of Enchantment

By Dawn Gardener

I recently watched a wildlife documentary on Puerto Rico on BBC2 narrated by the wonderful David Attenborough and was hooked.I have never been to this Island in the Caribbean but now want to visit and not just for a day. I was amazed at the current rehabilitation programmes that are in place for specific species that are native to this small Island. So not only do these ‘Isles of Enchanment’ have amazing history but also some beautiful species of marine and wildlife.Puerto R...
