Q: We're just about to book for Nov 2012 for the Southern Caribbean wth RC and using Explorer of the Seas sailing from NY We're going to book junior suites (8 adults and 2 children) but as its a first cruise for all of us and reviews are mixed I'm wondering now if booking this is a good idea or not? A bit worried about sickness but will stock up on meds for this!! Would value honest comments, we're looking for something with a touch of luxury but also casual as and when we want it if that makes sense. 3 answers

You have certainly booked a good cruise line for your first cruise, especially for your children. All Royal Caribbean ships are very good, however I must take the Independence of the Seas out of the equation, it really is the "Black Sheep" of the company. If by chance any of your group suffers from seasickness just go to reception and they will give you (free at the present time) tablets that will in most cases get rid of the sea sickness. The "Junior Suites" are good value for money, they are bigger than the standard balcony cabin, but they do not entitle you to any of the privileges that the Grand Suites and better enjoy. Your "Touch of class/casual" will be well catered for on this ship.

I think you have probably made a good decision as far a "casual luxury" is concerned. We often book Junior Suites and are pleased with the space and the few extras without going to a suite wnd the extra price.

Explorer is a big ship so rides better than smaller ones and unless you hit really lumpy water you should be fine. The only caution is if you have a J S overlooking the stern when you can get more movement. Take Stugeron or equivilent just in case but you should be surprised.

Good sailing. .....Neil
