We did this cruise last year and really loved it....I think you will find that on future cruises you would feel more confident to do some of these trips on your own and thus save yourselves some money (for another cruise!) Alghero is a lovely little town and you go ashore by tender boat into the harbour....we just wandered the streets which had some lovely shops to browse in ...sat and had coffee and a cake in a little square and then wandered some more and came to the water again ...we followed the coast around back to the harbour (taking photos of the ship at anchor) had another coffee and a cake!!!(very cheap) and then got the tender back to the ship....it was nice to have a relaxing day exploring on our own. We enjoyed this itinerary and the Sea Princess immensely and hope you do to!

Bothamley - Answered a Question by Tanner (25 May 08 22:27)

Hi we came back from this cruise just yesterday - same itenary. You don't need to book thetrips with the ship as it is cheaoer to do it yourself. Except the one for Rome we booked with the ship to do the tour on our own - the coach takes you into Rome and then you go off on your own and then the coach picks you up again however there was a tour guide on the bus who told us all we needed to know - we could also have taken the train into Rome for 10 Euros ( the coah cost us around £30 return) you can get a taxi in all the ports to take you to the nearest place and there is always somone looking to share with you. We only had to use the tender boat in Sardinia and some ports you can walk into. Shuttle buses are provided for about £2 each way into the nearest towns but you can as i said walk to many. Hope you enjoy your first Cruise.

carberry - Answered a Question by Tanner (25 May 08 22:32)

Hi,carberry here again we are cruise virgins also and doing the same cruise as yourself but in july. it was difficult to decide on which tour to do on our own the tours we have prebooked are monte carlo- old monaco and the royal palace livorno- florence and pisa civitavecchia-rome the eternal city and we will do the rest on our own in barcelona we are going to use the tourist bus i have read travel guides of barcelona and know exactly what we want to see this combined with a walking tour which takes appro 1 hr of the gothic quarter and walk along las ramblas. in gibraltar we are taking the taxi bus tour that are available at the dock they cost £7 per person and some say these tours are better than the organised ones and bring you around all the sites. in alghero we will also tour on our own i got a fantastic travel book called sardinia by thomas cook travel from the library but you can purchase it for £8.99 in the book it gives you a detailed walk of alghero that takes about 2 1/2 hours to do starting at the port and finishing at cafe latino overlooking the port for as the book sayes a well deserved drink. and we will explore palma on our own oh and cadiz we will explore this on our own also.i will inform you about the tours on our return.

Neil and Ida Down - Answered a Question by Tanner (26 May 08 00:39)

I would agree with Judy, she knows her stuff. Doing it yourself means that you can cut out all the things that you don't want to do and include other things from other tours that you would otherwise miss. Take notes from the net and past cruisers comments and you'll soon be teaching us a thing or two. Cruising for many is the only way to holiday and it sounds like that might be you.... Nei.

Williams - Answered a Question by Tanner (26 May 08 16:50)

I think you have made exactly the right decision in booking organised trips on your first cruise. Yes you might save some money organising your own but you do not get a guide, who if good can make the whole trip come to live. Also you have total convenience - you walk off the ship and onto the coach, instead of having to sometimes go by public transport and worry that it will get held up and not get back on time. Main thing is to have a great time and just be yourselves. My advice is first day best thing to do is to board as early as you are able and then immediately to go to the buffet for lunch. Then read the various information that is in your cabin and have a tour of the ship - there are usually two main decks to explore on the lowere decks eg 3 or 4 and two or three to explotre on the higher decks ee 10 or 11. Decide where you want to watch the sailaway from, as this is a special moment and then get ready for dinner, which on the first night is aleways casual. You will soon get into a routine and find which areas of the ship suit you best eg which bar and what activities you like. Do have a great time.

Thank you all. Now , just to make sure Iv'e got it right. Iv'e filled in my imigration papers on Princess so as to save time when boarding. We should arrive about lunchtime and after finding our cabin go explore. We should have lunch at the bufett and then choose where we want to be for the sail away. ( with plenty of tissues incase my daughter is seeing us off ).I have pre booked all excursions and my facial. How am I doing ?

Hi we have just returned from this trip. We did not book any of the excursions but managed to see most of yhe places we visited by taxi. Rome is s good one to book as very busy and tours take preference. Not much time on half day trips, take a taxi. We stopped the tips of $10 50 each day but were glad to pays these at the end as the service was excellent. If buying soft drinks pay $40 for unlimited drinks all trip. Happy cruisin.

I have been trying to personalise on Princess site and it lets me get so far and then stops, even though I know there are more pages to do. I am sure that before there was a page where you could even choose what drinks you wanted in your fridge but I can't find it now . Must I ring Princess to sort it out.
