McDonald - Answered a Question by myers (04 Jan 09 13:28)

The standard tippings are already allocated as 11 - 13 USD per person per day (depending on grade) and are added to your onboard account. You can easily opt out of this by going to the pursuers desk during your stay and opting out of the tippings, you will be surprised how many people do this.(don't leave it till the last day though as your account should have been finalised) Alot of the fellow passengers we spoke to, actually did this as they preferred to tip on an individual basis and at the amount that they chose. We gave the standard tippings of 11 USD each per night, so it is entirely up to the individual. The benefit of this is that envelopes were not left in our room for additional tippings or anything like that, it was done and dusted! Please note that a 15% surcharge is automatically added to your drinks bill and this is not optional.(as far as i am aware). I hope this helps, hope you have a wonderful time. We cruised on the QM2 transatlantic in Nov 08.... spectacular!

Thank you for the advice it is very helpful I could not find any reference at all in Cunards Q/A Section on Tipping I guess this is a subject just a little to delicate to tackle. I note that quite a few people have looked at your advice so Im pleased its not only me who thinks about Tips.

Blyth - Answered a Question by myers (05 Jan 09 09:52)

I must admit not been on the QM2 but on the other ships we do the auto option but on the last night we have always had the envelope still to hand to the Stateroom staff/Waiter and Assistant so the ones we would have been tipping anyway, so not sure what the problem is. These are your main contacts and on odd ocassions there might be one or two others and even with the auto system we have still added more as the service we received from some was second to none.

Look at the "FAQ's" section of the Cunard brochure(@ pp174/175 of myAug.08-Dec 09 edition ) and it is all set out for you there. Cynthia.

By Camilla Edwards

Well its very nearly Christmas and all I wish for now is some snow! Walking the dog this morning everywhere was frosty and white, made me really feel in the festive spirit. One of the best things personally at this time of the year is the food and celebrations associated with Christmas and New Year, so this week I have decided to blog about 5 of my favourite places to eat. Some on cruise ships, some not.Fed Olsen Balmoral. I always enjoy the food on Fred`s ships and Balmoral last year was no...

My final update on my recent trip on Independance of the seas is all about my dining experience.I can honestly say I was not disappointed with one meal I had.You can literally eat 24 hours a day. The group was on second sitting which was 8.30 in the main dining room The Romeo and Juliet. The choice in there was great something for everyone and the staff were very attentive and gave us their recommendations at every meal. Also in here you can have A la Carte Breakfast from 7.30am to 9.30am an...

Calling all Small Ship Lovers.

By Nicola Milligan

Nicola Milligan's blog

Cast your mind back to 2015. and the sad news when P & O told us that the much loved 710 passenger adult only ship ADONIA was leaving their fleet.Lots of the small ship lovers were devastated as so many huge new ships were coming onto the market leaving a vast hole for the smaller more intimate ships. We were told she was joining Fathom Cruises a line that enables guests to do something good to help out poorer countries. So Volunteers through tourism can help locals learn English and build...
