Bradbury - Answered a Question by Elkington (29 Aug 08 14:31)

The US Travel agents cannot always give any extra discount on RCI whereas UK Agents can usually offer a % off RCI on line prices. However I have booked using US Travel agents who will price match any Uk quoted price by giving the difference in OBC. The US Travel agencies are great for last minute bargains but remember its Cruise only and there are some lines they are not allowed to sell to UK such as P&O. The one distinct advantage of booking with US Agent is that your deposit is fully refundable should you need to cancel prior to balance due date. They also are very good at switching the booking over if the price goes down, to match the lower price.

I did reply yesterday but I fear it got 'booted' by the moderators, so just a few points to add to Bradbury's. P&O, Princess, Cunard are no no's & some unscrupulous TA's are taking these bookings from UK customers, only to find themselves in difficulty at check in!, so like everywhere else, cowboys operate. The well known reputable agents are no different to phoning a TA down the road in this country. RCI, Celeb, Carnival, NCL, no problem. The main savings are on American departures(Caribbean) & less, if any, on European sailings. Finally as Bradbury stated, you book your own flights, transfers & hotels, which is no big deal & something I do regardless, whoever I book with as I don't enjoy the herded sheep scenario.

I should add. If you see a wonderful, super cheap, late deal in say, the Caribbean, just can't believe the price, be aware you be very unlikely to get a cheap or even reasonably priced flight ex UK, to get you there.

We've booked our last 10 cruises through the US - have never had a problem and always saved hundreds of pounds, but be aware you take a risk with the exchange rate. If the recent drop in the pound continues, you may get an unpleasant surprise when the balance becomes payable.

How Far Is Too Far?

By Alison Ranaldi

In March last year, I booked my holiday for November this year. At the time, booking 20 months in advance seemed quite strange and hard to get excited about. On the plus side, the cost of my cruise increased by over 700 per person over the following months and it has given us lots of time to plan what we are doing and to budget the holiday by booking trips, hotels and flights at different times rather than in one go. Also, it is nice to have something to look forward to. I have had a few holi...

Cruise News

What has been happening over the last couple of weeks in the Cruise Industry ?There has been a lot of talk about the new Cruise ship Bliss belonging to Norwegian cruise line. I never thought there would be a day that a ship would have a race track on board . I am led to believe the track itself will be the longest at sea at nearly 1,000 feet, with four speed settings accommodating all drivers with the speed reaching up to 30 miles per hour including a special turbo boost available on each l...

Truth Behind Your Cruise Itinerary

By Emily Watts

Emily Watts's blog

Experienced cruisers will already know by looking at an itinerary how far the ports are from the main city and towns. However those that are new to cruising may be a bit miffed when booking a cruise that visits Paris or Rome they are in fact in some cases two hours away. With Paris being the capital of France you know the only water that surrounds it is the Seine. I think the most shocking one that appears is Berlin, people are thinking this will be lovely to visit but in reality it is just ...
