Well as from 2014 on P&O and Cunard the answer will be “No I am sorry you cannot”
Over recent years since the no smoking legislations ban smoking in public inside areas, majority of cruise line have taken action in introducing designated smoking areas, mainly out on deck, and passengers are generally allowed to smoke on their cabin balconies and in some indoor smoking or cigar rooms .
However today in a controversial turn around P&O and Cunard cruises have take the decision prompted by customer feedback to stop passenger smoking on the balconies of their cabins. This leaving just the public smoking areas for customers to light up. Also updating their regulations to keep with the times and technology, electronic cigarettes that don’t give out any smoke won’t be allowed in any public areas but they will be allowed in cabins , balconies and in the designated open deck areas.
In part of their statement they explain ” ‘This change has been made for the safety and comfort of our passengers and means that all passengers will be able to enjoy full use of their private balconies, without the effect of drifting smoke’.
These changes will take effect from 26th March 2014 with the Ventura the first to roll out the new rules, with the rest of the fleet following shortly after.

So do you think P&O and Cunard have made the right decision?
Do you think this will put smokers off booking with P&O and Cunard?
Will you feel better about booking a balcony cabin rest assured that no stray cigarettes will come your way?
Customer feedback so far is very good most are very happy but I am sure there will be some that are not so happy.
