Where Should I Go Now?

Are we all panicking about going to various holiday destinations with all the turmoil in the world? After all, this is not new is it?  Latest statistics show that bookings to Turkey have fallen by 40% due to the bombings in Istanbul. What a shame, a beautiful country.  I speak to a lot of people during the course of the day, it is interesting to hear some of them say that they want to keep to Europe but are looking for something a little different, that they have not done before.

Somewhere you have not done before?  I wonder if that is why river cruising is so popular. Is it because of the political situation or is it simply because river cruises are so fab?  I think a little in between. If people are concerned about what is going on in the world, they would never leave there homes, would they! However, there is something to be said about just having a couple of hours flight, joining a ship and embarking on a wonderful, tranquil trip around Europe, which interestingly is the most popular choice for river cruises.

As you know, I did my first river cruise in December. Far be it for me to bore you all again with my comments and memories, perhaps though this is something you could think about if you are worried about where to travel to? Of course no destinations are immune to terrorism, more is the pity.

One of my favourite destinations has always been Budapest, but to arrive on a river cruise rather then a plane, is something else! From the Government building on the river bank to the beautiful Elizabeth bridge. From the great commercial “Pest” side to the historical “Buda” side. Budapest has got to be the “piece de resistance” of Europe and the Danube river.  There is so much history around this city from medieval times to the 2nd world war and not forgetting the 1956 Hungarian uprising.  It is a great city to walk around, browse the shops, marvel at all the sites, go on the old Ferris wheel and see the city from a vantage point (not for me ever again!).

If you are wanting to do something a little different or it is because of what is going on at the moment, then perhaps, river cruising is for you. Something to ponder on anyway!
