2016 Oscar Winner Is Leo & The Cruise Winners are….

I make no secret of the fact that I love Leonardo DiCaprio, and I do think he is a great actor. I am sure on the 28th of this month he will win the Oscar that he so richly deserves. Which leads me onto the Cruising Industry Oscars. These are held every year and voted by thousands of people like you, who love to cruise. There are so many different categories from best ship to best public rooms, shore excursions etc etc. The 2016 winners have just been announced, NCL cruises have certainly wiped the floor this year!

I start with the best ship which is always divided into three sections, small, medium and large.  Large ships are defined as over 2000 passengers.  Top of the leaderboard is NCL Spirit, closely followed by NCL Jade, both worthy winners I think.  The third choice, did surprise me, not that is is not a great ship but I personally think there are better out there – anyway, the 3rd place went to Cunard Queen Elizabeth, then followed by Celebrity Reflection and Eclipse in that order. I would have thought the Eclipse would have been higher.

Medium size ships are defined by 1200 to 1999 passengers. Winner is Oceania Riviera, a good choice and a fab ship. Second place goes to NCL again with the Sun. Third place is Thomson Spirit with Thomson Celebration coming in fourth. Fifth place is RCL Rhapsody Of The Seas. Again, interesting choices there I think!

Small ships are defined as 1999 passengers or less. Top of the leaderboard is the Seven Seas Voyager, again another fab ship. Closely followed by the Viking Star, this ship is a must to see I think. Third is Azamara Quest then Fred Olsen Boudicca and finally Silverseas Silver Spirit. Interestingly non of the other luxury ships are included, such as Seaburn or Seadream, I wonder why.

I thought I would have a quick look at the best for families and for first time cruisers

Best for families is the Thomson Majesty.  Second place was P&O Britannia, then Celebrity Eclipse. Finally RCL get a mention with Rhapsody Of The Seas and Explorer coming in 4th and 5th place.

Finally the best for first time cruisers, always a interesting choice. First is P&O Arcadia, followed by NCL Jade, Caribbean Princess, Cunard Queen Victoria and finally the Thomson Spirit.

Of course, were all different with different views. I do have to admit some of these I would not have mentioned before others, but there you have it! Who in your opinion, is a worthy winner like my Leo? I would be interested to know your choice and why.
