Land Of The Incas

I love to travel, love to cruise, and in this ever changing world we live in I sometimes wonder is there anywhere else we can travel/cruise to, that is a bit different.  Now, that got me thinking, to a trip I did a couple of years ago to Peru.  Was there anyone out there who would do the same kind of trip I did which I could recommend to you?  Yes there is!

Avalon river cruises whom you probably know from European river cruises, offer a fantastic 12 day trip taking in all the highlights of such a wonderful diverse country as well as 3 days cruising down the Peruvian Amazon.  Now I must admit I did not do the Amazon cruise bit, more is the pity, but everything else I have done and would recommend this 100%.

The first part of the trip, you fly to Lima and stay 2 nights.  Lima is a beautiful city, full of culture and so many interesting places to see. The food there is some of the best I have tasted, and it has a real cosmopolitan feel to it, perhaps not what you were thinking of for a city in South America.  On this trip you then fly to Cusco which is in the heart of the Andes. A magnificent old city. Everywhere you turn there are sights of the old Inca empire. From there you can visit the temple of Sacsayhuaman – a fantastic place to visit.  After Cusco travel through the Scared Valley and catch a train to Machu Picchu. The train journey is unreal. Just imagine travelling through the countryside, Inca pipes playing on the train and a host of people modelling (yes modelling) the latest jumpers! Surreal to say the least.  Of course the Piece de resistance is seeing Machu Picchu. Nothing can prepare you. It is wonderful, awe inspiring, magic, takes your breath away. In a way it is a shame it is now taken over by hundreds of thousands of people climbing through the ruins, but there you have it I guess better to see it then be hidden away in the jungle?

If you can tear yourself away from here, then back to Lima via Cusco and onwards to Iquitos for your 3 day Amazon river experience. I can only guess that this would be a wonderful end of the most amazing journey you may ever do!

Perhaps this may have wetted your appetite to sample this wonderful trip? If you would like any information on Peru, please let me know, I am more then happy to share my experiences of a really fantastic country.
