Frozen at Sea

If you’re a fan of Disney and going on cruises, you’ll be delighted to discover that Disney Cruise Line is bringing a new experience on board, inspired by the hit animation film Frozen. For those who have seen the movie, you’re bound to be familiar with Princess Elsa and the catchy theme song Let it Go and beginning in summer 2015, the Frozen characters will make their debut on Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Magic and Disney Wonder vessels. For one day on a number of sailings to Alaska and Europe the ships will be transformed into a winter wonderland, with sparkling icicles lining the grand staircase and the atrium lobby scattered with a snow effect to resemble Elsa’s magical ice palace. The Frozen experience will include a deck party, a meet and greet with the characters, storybook adventures ashore, and a three-song stage show production. During the day, passengers can enjoy appearances by Elsa, Anna, Sven, Kristoff and everyone’s favourite snowman, Olaf. Families can take part in an ‘Anna’s Chase for the Chocolate’ scavenger hunt, where guests will be awarded with a surprise upon completion. Children can also join in the ‘Do You Want to Build a Snowman’ activity, where they will take on Elsa’s magical powers to create snow and ice. There will also be an opportunity for passengers to learn a traditional Scandinavian...

All aboard the new cruise ships in Liverpool

As 2014 draws to a close, the Liverpool cruise terminal is preparing for a busy year ahead, with the addition of 54 new cruise ships. Many of these will include new vessels and cruise liners that will first take to the waters along the Mersey to the historic port. The main highlight of the season will be two events to commemorate Cunard Cruise Line’s 175th anniversary. Cunard’s first ever ship, Britannia, set sail 175 years ago and headed to America. Since then, the cruise line has become renowned for its luxury cruising experiences and has built up a reputable fanbase among frequent passengers and newcomers alike. On May 25th 2015, the Cunard fleet will arrive on the Mersey, creating a much anticipated Three Queens spectacle that is sure to go down in maritime history. The second event is set to take place on July 4th 2015, which will see the Cunard flagship Queen Mary Two return to Liverpool to mark Britannia’s departure exactly 175 years earlier. A series of events will also be held across the city to celebrate the excitement of the cruise industry and how Liverpool has contributed to popularising cruise travel across the globe. The introduction of the 54 ships is expected to bring more than 80,000 international visitors to the city. Among the large cruise liners making their debut on the Mersey in 2015 are...

The Curious Case of the P&O Arcadia and Cunard’s Queen Victoria

When you’re trying to decide on a cruise ship for your next holiday it can seem like the variety on offer is never-ending. Big ships, small ships, fun ships, formal ships – the choice can become overwhelming!   However, many cruise liners are closer in style and have a more interlinked history than you might imagine. The fact that many of our best known cruise lines actually fall under the same umbrella company means plenty of crossover between fleets, where ships may have been re-allocated or re-purposed throughout their cruising career.   One great example of this is the...
