I took a trip to Rome and i’m feline good…

One of the most popular places to visit on a Mediterranean cruise is Rome, ok its a long run to get there but it is worth it once you arrive.
There is history around every corner with sights that have you stood there with your mouth open in awe of the sheer architecture on show.
But did you know about a place called Torre Argentina in the centre of Rome?
Not many people do, I stumbled on it by accident when we were exploring and since then I visit each time I go there.
It is a cat sanctuary with a difference, it is in the ruins of part of a temple, talk about being looked after by the gods.

Let me tell you a little about it and maybe next time you are there you can take a look for yourself, it is an amazing place to visit especially if you love cats.
It was founded back in 1994 by 2 ladies I believe and their love for cats has carried on with visitors from countries all around the world coming to see them. Some people adopt from afar to help this sanctuary carry on its good work.
One of the pretty cats is called Maggiolina and she is a queen and she knows it, see if you can spot her if you go.
This is Maggiolina

The animals are taken care of and have food and shelter and their medical needs are taken care of, some of these poor creatures have more needs than others.
Smemorina is one of my favourites and as she was very badly injured in a car accident it means she can’t drink the same way the other cats do, she is often seen waiting for the caretaker to come along and she drinks from the hose, it is sad to see but she is very well cared for.
This is Smemorina and we were all fighting for the perfect photo of her with her little wonky jaw, she likes this spot as she gets a drink from the hose from just here

Have a look at the website if you are planning to go and take a look as there are directions on there, it is easy to find though as it is right in the center, have a look for Gatti di Roma.

The cats love basking in the Roman sunshine and of course, love the attention of the visitors
There is a little shop there and all proceeds go towards the upkeep of the animals living there. I usually buy the calendar if I don’t happen to visit
Let me know if you go and maybe post some photos.
Ciao!
