What is the weather doing tomorrow?

How many times have you heard that on a cruise ship, its one of the first things you do in the day as soon as you get up, is it raining is it warm, what about windy, the British love their weather. It is even on the newspaper in the cabin right at the top.
Depending on where you are going a bit of rain might be welcome, a nice cooling shower in the heat of the Caribbean can be a godsend but when it all comes at once then it can be a different matter.

Most cruises tend to steer clear when there are hurricanes around but there will always be people that want to know why the ship changed course as they wanted to go to that particular place, we hear it all the time, they just don’t give a thought to how dangerous it would be to take something so massive through something so destructive, as if the ship would protect them just so they could go through 100 miles an hour winds to get a fridge magnet.

I remember being on a ship many years ago and we got caught by the weather that came and almost surrounded us very quickly so we had to ride it out, it was night time and dark and I had an inside cabin and the first I knew about it was when I was woken up sliding down the bed slowly, of course, first thoughts were that the cabin was haunted but then I realized it was a storm. I was up and out to see what was going on.
There was water pouring in on the decks all over the place and the crew was running about like headless chickens, they did do a good job though and in a few hours it had calmed, it is still a scary thing to wake up to and that was not even a hurricane.

This is a question we get now and then

Am I entitled to a refund or other compensation if no outdoor activities can be offered because of bad weather?

No, you are not. Cruise lines are not responsible for bad weather. If little to no outdoor recreation is possible, the cruise lines will increase their lineup of indoor activities.

this is another.

What about refunds for any shore excursions I booked for that port?

If you have booked a shore excursion through the cruise line you’re sailing, you will receive a full refund if the port of call is canceled or arrival is delayed in a way that prevents you from taking the shore excursion. If you booked the shore excursion independently, the cruise line will not refund you. Many independent shore excursion operators understand that port calls get canceled and will give refunds, but not all. Ask about all refund policies when considering booking a shore excursion with a company other than the cruise line.

So what is the worst experience you have had concerning the weather?

My friends were on a cruise in Greece a couple of months ago and they put a video on youtube and the noise from the wind was horrendous, screaming through the doors.
I am lucky that I don’t get sick in rough weather, in fact, I quite like it but I dread to think how it would feel if you were prone to seasickness.
