World Cruises… Much More Holiday, Far Less Money Than You’d Imagine!

World cruises for upto 114 days may seem out of your league…     but let me share with you some of the reasons they are not.

When I started in the cruise business around 24 years ago, I often wondered who really did take full world cruises. My thought was that the cruise lines advertised these but the ship must have only ever been filled with people doing short sectors – all world cruises are broken down into shorter sectors – and so in my mind very few people were away for the full duration. I could not have been more wrong with my thinking.

It might interest you to know that many cruise lines – Cunard, P&O, Regent Seven Seas, Silversea, Crystal – first open up their cruises to people who want the full duration…      and with both past and new guests, they fill much space in this way. Good reasons behind this of course. It’s a far less expensive marketing and promotional exercise to sell in this way because the more people they get on the full cruise, the less space they have left to promote and hence lower costs for the cruise line.

What about cost? Look at P&O as an example. Their lovely ship Aurora sails on 2nd January 2016 on a 114 night world cruise to all those destinations you have always dreamed of holidaying to. You can currently book (with me!!!) an inside cabin for as low as £10,849 per person. Catch me in a good mood and I might even do better than that for you. You’ll also get included £400 per person to spend onboard the ship. I know what you’re thinking and it’s a lot of money…     but is it really.

Cunard Sydney

This was the way I always thought but then I started thinking differently.

Break this down into bite size bits and it becomes entirely more appealing and affordable. This cost breaks down to £95 per person per night. Now, think. World cruises typically leave the UK at the start of January and take you away from the worst of the British winter to sunnier and hotter climates around the world. Get away for that period and you’ll be saving on your home gas, electricity, telephone, car, food, entertainment, day to day living costs…     so, the bottom line is you could be saving half the cost of the cruise in the savings made on all these items. Costs will vary according to your personal circumstances but you get my point. Thrown into the bargain is the appeal of seeing the world.

Shorter trips can appeal too. P&O’s Oriana leaves the UK on 6th January 2016 on a 50 night cruise and that one, using all the same principles as above works out at £86 per person per night and with £600 per person to spend onboard too!!!

Let me know what you think about world cruises.
