NO SUCH THING AS THE “BEST SHIP IN THE WORLD”… A DIFFERENT SHIP FOR EVERYONE!!!

In all the years that I have been in the cruise business, you’ll see from my blog, that over the past 23 years or so, I have built up quite a knowledge base of much to do with cruising. So, if it’s cruising, cruise ships, cruise lines, cruise destinations…     and more, then you need to speak to me.

A great many people have…    and I have successfully, on more occasions than not, managed to “wow” my customers with the cruise holidays that they have booked through me. It’s always been my aim to exceed their expectations when they cruise and hence, I want all my customers to end their trip saying “wow…     that was the best holiday I have ever had”. When I get that sort of reaction, I know I have succeeded.

Over the years, one of the many questions that I have been challenged with has been: “you’ve done many cruises Wayne, so what’s the best ship in the world then?”. This question has often been asked of me by customers who have been cruising on Seabourn, Silversea, Crystal, Regent Seven Seas…   and, in some cases, also by people who have favoured P&O or Cunard.

I recall one occasion when I received an enquiry from a lady who challenged me from the outset. You need to know that we expect the best”, she said. “We have cruised around eight times and are finding it difficult to better what we have done so far”. Then I asked her what cruise lines she had been on and she replied…    “P&O…     so, we have already cruised on the best!!!”. Oh dear, this lady honestly believed this, but was she wrong? Not really so let me explain.

There really is no such thing as the best ship in the world. It’s all down to what the individual wants, and that will inevitably be very different to every individual.

For this lady above, her “ideal best ship in the world” could well have been the one that cruises out of the UK, appeals to the taste buds of the British, offers everything to make the Brit feel at home…    the language, the other passengers like you and me, the beer, the food, the currency, the entertainment etc…

For others, their best ship could be the one where they are left to cruise in the most casual surroundings, no formalities, no fancy food.

Want to be pampered, and treated like a celebrity? Then you might be looking at the likes of Silversea where pampering reaches new heights. Exquisite wine and dine, lavishly appointed suites, butler service on tap.

Perhaps you want to visit Antarctica and get up close, getting on land by zodiac with a handful of other priveleged guests.

Caribbean away from the masses…     no big ships in port, and sailing to the lesser known islands only reachable on a much smaller boat.

The choices are endless, but what they all have in common is that “the best ship in the world” for you, could be very different to the one opted for by me, or your best friend.

I have always believed, and still believe to this day, that almost everyone I meet, without exception, is a potential cruiser. The skill is getting to know just what cruise, what style, what ship suits that individual.

What would your best ship be? I would love to hear and may incorporate your answers in a future blog. You can email me at [email protected]
