CRUISING BORING… ON YER BIKE!!!

Following on from last week’s blog, where I showed there is the right cruise and cruise ship for everyone, this week let me focus on something that always crops up when talking to couples where one wants to cruise and the other is not sold on it.

I have taken this type of cruise enquiry now for many years. Usually, the wife calls me and tells me she and her husband are looking for a cruise. She is dying to cruise because she’s heard so much about this amazing type of holiday. Unfortunately, her husband is really only going though the motions because he really doesn’t like the idea of a cruise one bit. So, we have a problem. I need to sell the idea of the cruise to the husband.

One issue that always comes up is that he will be bored because they will be on ship and that, to him, means little to do. This is fairly typical of the challenge that I receive day in day out.

Cruising is anything but boring. It’s one of the few types of holiday that I know of that offers just about every type of “entertainment” and to suit all tastes.

Evening shows and entertainment vary considerably dependent on what cruise line and cruise ship you go with. It could be big stage cabaret and shows on the ships of Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. There may be quizzes at locations for smaller numbers of people. Pianists, opera singers, musical cabaret of all styles. Bars galore. There is often a gym and fitness classes. Sauna and solariums are on offer too.

Some ships have lecturers who specialise in particular fields. There are port talks where you can find out in advance of arrival at a port what there is to do there and what shopping opportunities there are.

Luxury cruise lines, like Silversea, and smaller ships typically bring on board local low key entertainers. These might be local folk singers in local costume either singing, dancing or acting out a play. Could be a combination of all three.

River cruise lines like APT carry bicycles on board so that guests can cycle, sometimes between two ports.

The options are endless and I have always found something to suit everyone.
