Rule Britannia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today P&O have officially named their brand new ship, set to be the Largest British cruise liner the BRITANNIA which will arrive spring 2015 from Fincantieri .

During a announcement this morning UK chief executive David Dingle said the naming of the ship reflected a “rediscovered pride in our country”.

He went on to say: “Britannia is a most fitting name for the newest addition to P&O Cruises which, with its long and famous heritage, remains Britain’s favourite cruise line. Britannia will capture both the contemporary spirit of P&O Cruises and the spirit of Britain today.

Although  this may be a brand new ship the name is not new, The Britannia name has been used by the company before, for a vessel built to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887.

With the cruise market expanding every year with the likes of the Royal Princess and Allure of the seas all making waves there is no surprise that P&O with want to make this their biggest and most grand ship to date. The brand new 141,000 tone vessel will carry 3600 passanger a new capacity high for P&O cruises.  Southampton based Britannia will feature a number of innovations, including purpose-built single rooms with private balconies, along with being P&O’s greenest ship yet, it will be designed to deliver much greater levels of operational and environmental efficiency. A new hull form will reduce fuel consumption by up to 20%. Also taking Dinning, Entertainment and a modern design to the next lever but still keeping with P&O Signature features.

So what do you think of the new name? I think after the last few years of Olympics, Jubilees and Royal Wedding celebrations, it is a fitting name for the new British ship set to be “THE VERY BEST OF THE BEST” and I will look forward sharing more information over the coming months.
