Cruise’s for Single’s…..Do they exist??

I am always asked by customers, and rightly so, where are the single deals? why so high a supplement?  which cruise is best for solo travelers to mix and meet new people?

So is there such a thing as a good single offer? or is it more like searching for a needle in a haystack?

This is my advice for the solo traveler and how to obtain the best deal.

The first thing to decide is what is more important, price, or the opportunity to meet new people and enjoy new experiences with new friends. I say this because yes, like everything, you do get what you pay for, for example you may likely  pick up a cheap saver fare on P&O Azura, with the ship full of 3000+ guests, single passengers are likely to feel more isolated. The smaller intimate ships you will pay more for but will certainly be more sociable.

So whats best to look for in a ship or cruise line:

1-A smaller cruise ship will make it easier to meet people.

2- Having a set dining will allow easy conversation at dinner.

3- Expedition cruises are even better as everyone will likely all join in on group excursions and are all like minded.

4- Choose a cruise that hosts a single get to together or party.

5- A ship that has a few single cabins will obviously have more single guests. Such as the Studio cabins with Norwegian Cruise line.

6- All inclusive cruises certainly make it easier to meet for drinks without worrying who is buying.

Norwegian Cruise Line Studio lounge is an excellent choice for solo travelers, there is a separate bar and dining space to meet others and even a notice board where you can post questions, maybe asking to join up on excursions etc. The only downside is the cabins can be quite small but certainly very sociable.

Holland America Line also has single cabins and has a whole host of activities on board like cookery demonstration classes and wine tasting as well as single cocktail parties. They also have social hosts to dance with the single ladies on certain sailings. I wonder what their job title is and not sure about the men on that one sorry guys!!

Fred Olsen again offers single cabins and one of the best companies for single supplements, they will sometimes have offers where there is no single supplement in a twin cabin. They too host cocktail parties and have at least 4 gentlemen hosts to dance with the passengers.

When looking for the deals and reduced single supplements it  is always best to look out of season for a start. The more obscure sailings and during low season will carry low single supplements. For example, and what prompted me to write this topic, is a current offer with MSC Cruises on board Opera. Sailing from Southampton on 07 October for 21 nights through to Cape Town South Africa, an inside cabin with no single supplement and including the return flight home is just £799 at present. Amazing deal from MSC. Yes offers like this can be picked up throughout the year with the likes of Fred Oslen and to a less extent P&O. It is a case like any late deal of grabbing it while you can.

So for you single offer, please do not hesitate to contact me. I also have a singles database whereby I update customers with any offers that may come through.
