Downton Abbey

With the highly anticipated return of Downton Abbey to our screens, Crystal Cruises is set to offer a 2 night post cruise land stay to the iconic Highclere Castle in the Hampshire countryside.

But this will be  no ordinary visit as guests will arrive in true 1920’s style in vintage chauffeur driven automobiles, there will be a private champagne reception and tour of the estate including rooms used on set such as the drawing room and library. There will be exclusive access to filming locations and period costumes along with a visit to Basildon Park which is used as the Grantham families London House.

Guests will stay overnight at the Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire, an authentic English Manor house boasting luxurious and modern facilities with Dinner and breakfast included.

This exclusive post cruise tour will be offered in conjuction with Crystal Symphony 18 night North Cape/Arctic cruise from Reykjavik to Dover on 8 July 2015. The cruise will take guests beyond the Arctic circle to the Land of the Midnight Sun, the North Cape and the stunning Norwegian Fjords.

Prices for the cruise start at £6163 per person and with the additional supplement of $4600 per person for the post cruise tour, so this does not come cheap, but I have no doubt this will be a sell out. Crystal Cruises themselves are a six star luxury all inclusive cruise line with fine Dining and champagne included, along with tips and butler service in all grades. But be quick, the booking deadline is 31 October 2014 and subject to availability.

Having been lucky enough to experience Highclere Castle myself I can only say what an absolute treat this tour would be, as you pull up along the driveway the castle is simply breathtaking. Since Highclere Castle is my neighbour I spent many of my late teenage years working here as a waitress and host for events and weddings and so have seen many of the rooms and “backstage” areas. I spent many an evening polishing the silverware and cutlery and so see myself fitting in with the servants quite well!! Although really I see myself  more of a Lady Mary!!
