The Maldives is shut that month

I’m sure we’ve all experienced a cancellation of something we’ve been looking forward to and many cruises have been told their holiday will have to be cut short like passengers on board the Oriana this week. Our Christmas 2 night mini cruise unfortunately had to be cancelled last year due to last minute repairs to the ship.

Imagine if you’ve been saving up for that dream holiday of a lifetime and you’ve finally plucked up the courage and let go of that hard saved deposit and booked your exotic vacation to the Maldives. Fantastic, this is the holiday of a lifetime, but no, hold on, what do you mean, ‘you have cancelled my reservation due to Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud booking out the Maldives that week. Is this a joke??’

Apparently not!

Allegedly the Prince has spent £18m on a month long state visit booking out the resorts of Anantara Veli, Naladhu and Anantara Dighu from February 19 to March 15. It is believed the 78-year-old heir to the Saudi throne will also be taking with him a floating hospital, luxury yacht and more than 100 bodyguards.

Some holiday makers are disgruntled as they say they received no cancellation from their hotel. It was only when they contacted the Company to arrange transfers and discuss final details that they were told their holiday had been cancelled, no apology, no notice, just cancelled.

Imagine having the money and power to book an exclusive island, I hope he has fun relaxing on his sun lounger knowing that he has ruined several couples romantic dream holidays and honeymoons. I’m sure that will be the last thing on his mind being a very busy man, discussing state business.
