This week Cunard brings great news regarding single travellers by releasing 9 single cabins on the Queen Victoria. Fantastic, at last, thank you Cunard.

‘The nine new single staterooms on Queen Elizabeth consist of eight Ocean View rooms and one Inside, each offer spacious and comfortable accommodation for the single traveller and boast single beds with a generous width of 120cm. The Ocean View rooms benefit from especially large windows giving plenty of natural daylight and excellent views of Queen Elizabeth’s many wonderful destinations. The rooms are centrally located midships on Deck 2 and are amongst the very best located staterooms on Queen Elizabeth, being so close to the social hub of the ship including the Royal Court Theatre and the Queens Room.’

I would say approximately 15-20% of the passengers I book travel solo and I think the percentage of single travellers is going to increase so it’s about time the cruise lines start to recognize how hard done by single travellers are when it comes to getting a good value priced cruise.

Yesterday I spent almost an hour attempting to find a single passenger price for a client wishing to change her holiday from 2014 to 2015. She had a 14 night cruise booked originally on a no ‘single supplement passenger promotion’, unfortunately she could no longer travel on this sailing. To find a suitable same value cruise to switch to in 2015 resulted in her having to drop down to an 8 night sailing at the same cost.

I appreciate cruise lines need to make money but do think there should be more recognition for the single traveller not just the sporadic single promotion every now and then. There are already some great lines out there that do accommodate single passengers Fred Olsen being the most favorable springing to mind so I’m pleased that Cunard are now following suit.

I’m sure this news will bring joy to many single passengers let’s just hope when they release the pricing structure it will be as attractive as the cabins.

Queen Elizabeth’s nine new single staterooms will be On Sale from 1300 on 4 June 2014 for departures from 16 December 2014
