Cunard Queen Elizabeth to get single cabins during her refit

Cunard’s newest ship the Queen Elizabeth is currently undergoing refurbishments that will include adding dedicated single cabins to the ship.

Cunard’s current fleet doesn’t have any dedicated single cabins at the moment and there hasn’t been any since the QE2.

Cunard say that the addition of the nine single cabins is in response to passenger demands, so it’s nice to see that they are listening.  Eight of the single cabins will be ocean view with the other being an inside cabin.

The cabins are going to be re-created by remodelling part of the ship’s casino.

P&O cruises have some single cabins on their ships already and they are definitely priced more competitively than a single occupancy of a twin cabin.  The prices still work out a lot more than two passengers sharing a standard cabin though, so for single’s looking for just as low a price as two it’s not viable.

Other improvements to the ship will include flat screen TV’s fitted to all cabins, sun awnings on the upper deck to create more shade and energy efficient scrubbing technology to clean the exhaust gases (a bit like a catalytic converter on a car).
