My day as a VIP on board the Royal Princess

This week I went to enjoy a VIP day on the Royal Princess that I had won with them.  I was also took my colleague Graeme with me.
This would be the first time the Royal Princess has been back into Southampton after she was christened and embarked on her maiden voyage.

We boarded early on, at about 0845 and went straight to the International cafe for a posh coffee and a bacon and egg muffin, just what I needed after the long drive down to Southampton.
The Royal Princess is a beautifully appointed ship, really glamorous as you can see from this picture of me stood in the Atrium.
After getting acquainted with our host and the others in our group we headed off to the Lotus Spa and changed into our comfortable black robes and sandals.
We were met by a group of young ladies who took us off for an amazingly relaxing massage, it felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders.
Of course after my massage I had to go and relax for a while in the Enclave, a beautiful relaxation centre on the ship.  This area has a therapy pool, steam rooms, water beds, hot beds and more.
Next up we headed to the bar outside the Crown Grill restaurant where we heard the announcement of the new ITV series this summer that will feature the Royal Princess.

As VIP’s we would be eating our lunch in the Crown Grill speciality restaurant rather than the main restaurant, perfect I thought, I love a good steak.
Lunch was amazing.  I had a massive piece of tender beef washed down with a glass of red wine, although I still managed to squeeze in a dessert.

After lunch we had a small amount of time to have a wonder around the ship.  We went up to the open deck for a while, unfortunately we weren’t blessed with sunshine that day.  You can see the Princess Cruises Movies under the Starts screen behind me there, massive !

I went for a look at the new Sea walk section whilst I was up on deck, this has a walkway set off from the ship with a glass bottom so you can look right down.  Unfortunately with this being Southampton port the view below me was of concrete, containers and fork lift trucks.

We met back up with the group in the Atrium and watched an entertainer whilst sipping on a glass of champagne.  The atmosphere was good and there were people dancing.
We ended the day with a VIP visit up to the bridge, I particularly enjoyed this as I hadn’t been up to the bridge of a cruise ship before.  It was massive up there. Fortunately I managed to restrain myself from pressing buttons and making call outs on the radio !
We dis-embarked after leaving the bridge and headed home.  It was an amazing day, I would like to thank Princess cruises for everything.  After going on the Royal Princess I can fully recommend her to anyone thinking about sailing on her.  The great news is that she is going to be Southampton based in 2015.
