What is it about New Orleans?

Many of you will have seen that we do some really incredible Tailor made Holidays. Some are more popular than others. Recently we have had many requests for our Deep South packages featuring New Orleans and even Memphis. I ask my clients ‘what is it that attracted you to this particular one?’ and many say to me New Orleans as they have never been before and always fancied going.

I don’t blame them i can see the intrigue. I’m surprised to see how much there is to do there. Let’s take a look at some of the top rated things to do or see in New Orleans.

Take a look around the French Quarter – The oldest neighborhood in New Orleans is also one of its liveliest. Home to some of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Here you will find many restaurants, shops, bars and concert venues. The French Quarter is also home to Walt Disney’s Port Orleans Resort with its very own jazz club and horse drawn carriage rides.

Appreciate the art in Jackson Square – This historic park within the French Quarter has been a National Historic Landmark since 1960.

Admire St Louis Cathedral – The St Louis Cathedral is seen as one of the best examples of French architecture in the United States. In the past the cathedral has hosted black, white and Creole Catholic congregants as well as other influences including voodoo queen Marie Laveu.

The magic of Mardi Gras – Mardi Gras World is home to an actual workshop where the floats for the parade are made as well as a variety of objects and artifacts that give a real behind the scenes view of the festival.

Voodoo and Cemetery Tours – Lafeyette Cemetery No 1. was built in 1883 and its most notable sights include the crypts of the Jefferson Fire Company. Some have also noticed that there are many German and Irish names in the cemetery and this bears testimony to the lethal affect of the Yellow Fever epidemic in the 19th Century. the grave of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau can be found in St Louis Cemetery No 1.

Jazz cruise aboard the steamboat Natchez – Listen to the cool jazz of the Dukes of Dixieland on-board the steamboat. Departing from the heart of the French Quarter.  Journey down graceful Mississippi river. Enjoy a lunch, dinner or brunch cruise and savor the flavors of New Orleans.

There’s an awful lot more to New Orleans but these are usually at the top of everyone’s list.
