Super Short Break

Like many first time cruisers I was very dubious about giving it a try. ‘What if I’m bored?’ ‘What if I get sea sick?’ ‘What if I don’t like the food?’ And like many people it turns out I had nothing to worry about. It just so happens a short break cruise is a perfect way to overcome your curiosity. Not to mention they cost less than a city break. Your breakfast, lunch and evening meal are all included, as well as afternoon tea on some ships. Chocolate and cream scone? Yes please. We had a choice of waiter service or buffet. We used the buffet a lot as my partner and myself tend to spend most of our time exploring on shore, by the time we had finished we were famished.

My partner and myself were blown away by the entertainment on offer. We saw it all including a West end style show, a comedy act, an acrobat show and even a good old fashioned game show night.

I am also a person who suffers with travel sickness. I arrived prepared with sickness tablets and pressures bands for my wrists that I found at the chemists. Only to be presently surprised I settled really well without them and slept like a baby during the night.

Bruges was a favourite place of ours we have stopped there twice now. The first time we went we joined an excursion which gave us a guided tour in the city and main square, then we went on to the chocolate museum. This excursion was really interesting and lets face it not many of us hate chocolate.

The second time we decided to venture out on our own. You are quite far between the port and Bruges city centre. But public transport was very cheap and easy to use. We used a tram and then a train which drops us off next to the city centre. We had a couple of hours to have a wander round and call in to pick up some Belgian beers before we had to set off back to the ship.

So could this be the break for you? Whether you try it as a sampler for your next holiday or even a taster for a city break in places like Bruges or Amsterdam, Why not give it a try.
