Do you bother with ‘Speciality dining’

So you know that all food is included on a cruise. Like i say, you can eat 23 hours a day if you wanted to.  I have always thought that the food in the main restaurant is sufficient.  How many days do you eat a 4 course meal when you are not on holiday and there is always a selection of at least 6 starters, mains and desserts to choose from.

Cruise lines have speciality dining on many ships where you pay an extra cover charge to eat a selected menu.  Is it worth it?

Cunard have announced that following a trial on QM2 a new steak house is to be rolled out on Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.

The menu, which also lists vegetarian and gluten-free options, focuses on high end meat selections that include New York strip steak, Scotch grass-fed dry-aged beef, salt marsh rack of lamb and Australian Wagyu beef, as well as seafood like Alaskan king crab legs and Maine lobster. Cruisers can choose from several sauces to round out their main courses.

Starters comprise salmon, lobster tail, Caesar salad and clam chowder, while sides include steamed broccoli, grilled corn on the cob, onion rings, triple-cooked French fries and mashed potatoes, among other items.

There will also be a selection of cocktails and wines to accompany your meat feast. All this for $25 per person at lunch or $39 per person for dinner.

Would you pay for this extra or do you think like me that the food in the main restaurante is enough.  Remembering the dinner costs an average of £33 (at todays exchange rate)! Mind you how many times do you have a ‘Salt marsh rack of lamb or Alaskan king crab legs?
