The Plane Of Dreams? – I Can’t Think Of Anything Worse!

The Brazilian airline Tam, has just announced a new Disney themed Boeing 767 in collaboration with Walt Disney World. They are calling it “the plane of dreams” – it has a number of the famous character faces all over the outside of the plane. 9000 square feet of prints, which took 10 days to put on.

I have no idea why Tam would want to do this? I could perhaps, understand if this plane only went to Orlando, particularly for the Disney holidaymakers but no, this plane is for any of the international long distance flights! The “magic” is not just for the outside of the plane though – Tam have announced that “passengers will be immersed in the Disney experience as soon as they set foot on board”  The airline have stated they will be a “themed” service along with special elements in the crew’s uniform!

Okay, so I am setting the scene here. Imagine a couple of business travellers flying from Rio to London. What would they really think seeing the plane at the airport with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Cinderella’s castle? Then they board and the staff have perhaps Mickey Mouse ears on or aprons with Goofy staring back at you?

The aircraft has already debuted this week with a special inaugural ceremony – a wave of Tinkerbell’s wand! Then Mickey and other famous characters mingled with all the attendees!  – Please give me a sick bag now.

I have children, although they are grown up, and I do get the “hype” over Disney, but let’s face it – don’t you think it is going a little over the top? it would honestly be my worse nightmare.  I finish this with words from the director of marketing and sales – (Latin America) Disney Parks and resorts – “‘For the executive, there is no better time than now to plan a visit to Walt Disney World. We will have new attractions and amazing news in all four parks this year. No one can miss it!’   I agree, Disney is wonderful, I just don’t get the Tam airlines involvement, unless of course it is a way to get a brand new plane?…..
