Festive Cruising

Happy Christmas, even if it is Boxing day when you read this!  Can you imagine what a cruise would be like over the Christmas & new year period?

Having just come off the Queen Mary 2, I know that all of the ships have fantastic decorations, some of course are more over the top then others. Say for example Disney cruises who run “very merrytime cruises” during the holiday period. Lots of Disney characters along with a winter wonderland ball where Mr & Mrs Father Christmas arrive with a snow filled surprise.  The other cruise lines have the usual Christmas dinners, some hot and more traditional, and others more like a buffet type. There are lots of carol services and of course Santa arrives for the little ones.

The true sense of Christmas is of course, not forgotten. Midnight mass as well as a church service on Christmas morning if you want to attend.

New years eve is for the “grown up’s,” the cruise lines do not disappoint! You will usually have a celebration dinner or a BBQ on deck (weather permitting), usually complimentary champagne, hats, streamers etc and the Captain will always do the countdown to the new year. Of course there will be a huge party, with drinks a plenty of course! If your lucky enough to be somewhere like Hong Kong, or Sydney you can stand on the deck and watch the fantastic fireworks from the shore – that must be brilliant!

A cruising holiday is memorable in so many ways, but to actually be on board during this special time of the year must be something a little bit special. If you fancy all of this and more then now is the time to start looking for 2015.

Happy new year to you all.
