Cunard Looks To The Future

2015 was a special year for Cunard as it is their 175th anniversary. Alot of celebrations were had, maybe you were lucky to have attended one of them? Now, Cunard are looking into the future. In May of 2016 the beautiful Queen Mary 2 will undergo a multi million pound refurbishment.  The lovely lady will be out of action for approx three and a half weeks and in that time they will be refreshing the decor and layout in the restaurants and across many of the suites and staterooms.  A main focus will be in the Grill Suites, which do get booked up so quickly and are consistently rated amongst the very best at sea. Basically, they are to be given a “dramatic new look with subtle nods” of course to Cunard’s heritage.

For you single travellers out there, Cunard are extending the single staterooms – 15 in all!  Also 30 new balcony staterooms alongside the refurbishment of the existing balcony accommodation.  They are even thinking of our four legged friends with 10 new kennels on board.  The main restaurants will also include more tables for 2 which are very popular.

In 2016 Cunard are also going to host some special event cruises which are always popular and of course bring a new set of clients to the cruising world! So in September there will be the Transatlantic Fashion Week. This will be to coincide with the New York Fashion week which starts on 8th September. If your on the ship at this time you may be lucky enough to spot Dame Zandra Rhodes CBE, Colin McDowell MBE and Gail Sackloff OBE, I note Victoria Beckham is not yet on the list – there is always time I guess! So, if you do fancy travelling on the ship at this time you will also see a catwalk show with many of Zandra Rhodes designs!

If fashion is not your thing, then how about partaking in a Around the British Isles culinary discovery cruise? Sailing in June on the Queen Elizabeth you can attend a talk and Scottish cooking demonstration with Nick Nairn while Jilly Goolden, the food and wine expert, will chat about her wines and her career. That’s not all! Charles Sichel of the Bordeaux estate “Maison Sichel” will also be on board.  So, if cooking demonstrations, workshops, and tastings are up your street then get yourself booked on this cruise.

Finally on the Queen Mary 2, Cunard are hosting a Blue Note Jazz at Sea cruise. Herbie Hancock will be joining on 1st August and Gregory Porter on the 25th October. I know from past clients experiences that these shows are fantastic. If your a fan then get yourself booked on the crossings now!

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish each one of you a very Happy Christmas. I look forward to assisting you with your 2016 cruise!
