Cruising Down The Danube

Yes, that is what I will be doing next week.  I have never been on a river cruise before, and very much  looking forward to it!

I am travelling with Emerald Waterways, who have a very good reputation, despite only been in operation since 2014.  With approx 182 passengers on board this will be a big change from the “big boys” I normally go on.

So, where I am off to? Well I fly from Newcastle to Heathrow on Monday evening, have a night there, then join Scott and Freddie (fellow colleagues) at Heathrow for our British Airways flight to Munich. Once we arrive in Munich we will meet up with Elizabeth another colleague and transfer by coach to Nuremberg and join the ship. We are travelling down to Budapest, on the way we will visit Regensburg which has one of the oldest bridges across the Danube (am I not the fountain of all knowledge!). Then onto Passau which is famous for the Oberhaus fortress. From Passau we will be visiting Salzburg on one of the many excursions planned for us. I have been to Salzburg before on a school trip which is too long ago now, so it will be great to try and remember certain places I saw then.

Then onto Durnstein, famous for where Richard The Lionheart was imprisoned after the crusades.  I am a lover of history and anything medieval, this will be right up my street! From there we go to Vienna. Again, we have some excursions planned, which I am really looking forward to. Then were on the final lap onto Budapest.  I have visited Budapest before and really did love the city and although we will not have time to visit it will be lovely to arrive by boat and see the city from another viewpoint.

I am going to be so spoilt on this trip as all meals are included. All drinks with the meals along with complimentary tea and coffee.  Wi-fi is also included so I can pester my husband even when away from home ( I have got him painting the kitchen while away!)

This is going to be the most wonderful trip, as apart from the lovely destinations we are seeing, all the Christmas markets will be on, that will be lovely to see, and I am sure will get us all in the Christmas spirit.

I will of course, give you my honest opinion  on my return, so until then it’s a “auf wiedersehen” from me!
