And The Oscar Goes To………………………..

No, it’s not Eddie Redmayne.  Every year the cruise industry have a “cruise critic choice” award which is basically categorised into best ship overall, best for families, dining, fitness, entertainment etc etc.  As it is Oscar week, I thought it only fitting that I mention a few of the winners from these awards in cruising.

The overall winner in the best large ship category goes to Celebrity this year. The Equinox, Silhouette and the Eclipse are the clear leaders. Closely followed by NCL with the Epic and the Jade.  I am also pleased to see that Oceania Riviera clinched the top slot for the mid size ships.

The “best for dining” category in large ships has gone to Celebrity ,Equinox, Silhouette and the Eclipse again with NCL Epic and Emerald Princess on their heels. Mid size ships, the Disney Magic and Fred Olsen Balmoral are the clear winners.

There is also a “best for cabins” category. In the large ships section the winner is again Celebrity on the Eclipse and I am thrilled to see MSC  Preziosa and the Fantasia up there too.  Mid size ships the winners are Oceania Riviera and again MSC on the Lirica.

If we look at the “best for value” category, once again Celebrity are the clear winners of the large ships closely followed by NCL again and Emerald Princess getting a mention.  Mid size ships lovely to see Fred Olsen Balmoral get another mention as well as Oceania and the Thomson Spirit.

I could go through them all but to finish let us have a look at the “best for service” category. Large ships, Celebrity Silhouette are tied with Emerald Princess, closely followed by the Eclipse, Epic and Spirit. In the mid size ships the Oceania Riviera sweeps the board, followed by Disney Magic and Thomson Spirit.

Of course, these are only the views of the cruise critic panel, we all have our own winners, what are yours?
