Do age and experience float your boat or do you prefer the excitement of something new?

It has to be said that with age comes a certain level of experience and a definite charm, whilst it is also true that the thrill of something new can offer excitement and intrigue… yet how can you compare old versus new in a battle where the benefits of each are so varied.

As a woman who loves to indulge in vintage wine and specially-matured cheese, a girl who revels in watching classic movies and listening to the sound of my favourite crooners on vinyl, and as a lady who enjoys aged bourbon and is engaged to a man several years my senior; I suppose it is fair to say that I enjoy the quality and charm that comes with things that are somewhat older…

When it comes to cruising I certainly appreciate the elegance, charm and nostalgia of traditional ocean liners such as the three queens of Cunard, and I am absolutely smitten with the idea of making the iconic transatlantic voyage from Southampton to New York; something we are hoping to do within the next couple of years.

Yes, nostalgia and charm certainly hold a special place in my heart…

Yet when it comes to cruising, I am also rather excited by the prospect of a fling with a new exciting ship and all that is offered by these large, flamboyant vessels; with their promises to be ‘the largest’, ‘the longest’, ‘the first’, in their references to waterslides, dodgems and rollercoasters to name but a few!

For me the beauty of cruising is in its variety, there truly is a cruiseline to suit each and every individual taste; from those who like the brand-spanking new, to the nostalgia of olde… from relaxing voyages to exotic shores, to expedition adventures to far flung destinations… from river cruises and journeys to vibrant cities, to taster cruises from close to home taking you to varied new ports of call… there truly is something for everyone and a ship that will be sure to float your boat.

… and if like me you swing between a love of nostalgia and a liking for new experiences, there is no better way to indulge your varied tastes than through the variety of options offered by cruising… as they say; variety is the spice of life!
