Woman Overboard Tragic Ending

cunardI have a heavy Heart this week as I heard from one of my customers how she felt when she heard the news whilst she was on-board The Cunard Queen Mary 2 on the 22nd December.

She had just spent an incredible few days in Time Square in New York and was on a “real high” excited about the prospect of sailing back to the UK Transatlantic and meeting new friends on board the ship to enjoy the festivities.

It was on the evening of the 22nd December soon after the cruise ship left Cape Liberty New York that the 74 Year old Passenger was reported missing. That’s when everything changed.

when the Award winning Ocean Liner was around 100 nautical miles south east of Atlantic City in New Jersey, The alarm was first raised.

The New York coast guard sprung into action and a plane and helicopter was scrambled, Cunards Captain made the decision to turn around to assist in the rescue effort but unfortunately that was in vane as darkness fell on Friday Evening.

A company spokesman for Cunard said: “It is with sadness we can confirm that after a comprehensive search, working with all relevant authorities, Queen Mary 2 has halted the search for a missing guest, presumed overboard.

The search was later suspended pending a further investigation.

From my source on-board the vessel things got really tense and passengers were desperately upset as they all looked over the outside decks.

This is of course a very rare occurrence but it does prove as a reminder of how much the Atlantic Ocean can be devastating. In those conditions at that time of year its incredibly difficult to Imagine someone being found if they did in fact go overboard.

I personally wish the passengers family all of my condolences in this terrible time.
