From Doc Martin to King of Travel

In travel I would describe myself as a bit of a geek, I collect National Geographic Magazines and enjoy my subscription to Wanderlust magazine who in my opinion have been offering some of the best travel journalism over the past 20 years.

I enjoy booking holidays that really push the boundaries of my expertise and I have certainly seen a trend over the past few years with intrepid travelers looking for more unusual off the beaten track travel and a way to explore more untouched cultured parts of the world that you don’t see everyday or hear about on the news.

Expedition cruising is is huge with so many parts of the world now making it onto Bucket Lists that 10 years ago would have been pockets of the world we all deemed inaccessible or too expensive.

The New ITV installment of travel series is one of my favorite Men behaving badly Martin Clunes, I have always been a fan of his work and feel he is so committed and passionate about his role that when he made the decision to embark on a travel series to show us a different view of America I was ready to sign up.

So far in the 4 part series he has taken us to Hawaii and Alaska arguably Americas largest and most famous Islands. In Hawaii Martin discovered the impact of last years Kilauea Volcano eruption meeting the locals who were evacuated and put into makeshift shelters.

He also explored the islands of Molokai and its truly breathtaking Halawa Valley one of the oldest continually inhabited human settlements in Hawaii.

Next stop Alaska of course in stark contrast with much colder temperatures here we saw snow capped glaciers. Martin took us to the island of Kodiak in search of bears.

Then onto San Juan Islands in Washington State the tv Doctor headed off to explore the National Park which has been dubbed America’s Galapagos Island’s because of the spectacular wildlife which resides here.

Here at cruise.co.uk we don’t only offer the conventional cruise breaks we have off the beaten track travel with escorted touring in more remote destinations. If Martin has inspired you to broaden your horizons and visit a new place let me know and we can put a special trip together for you.
