Don’t Breathe or Go Outside Americans Warned!

Working in travel we have pretty much seen it all from Volcanic eruptions, Tsunami’s, Cyclones, Extreme Heat and everything in between all of these matters have a potential threat to human life and of course undoubted problems and delays for travelers.

However with the strain we are all putting on the environment and ever changing climates around the globe we now have some of the coldest conditions on Earth effecting The Midwest of The United states. in fact in Minnesota this week temperatures could drop to a bone chilling -70 degrees that’s -94 F

These are some of the most dangerous conditions seen on planet Earth with The USA in parts colder than Antarctica.

The Chicago River has frozen over and large chunks of Ice have gathered in huge blocks floating through the “Windy City”

More than 1550 flights have been cancelled over Tuesday and Wednesday and another 2100 have been scrapped across the country on Wednesday sources Flight Aware.com

Businesses and office are closed but im afraid this goes far deeper than just inconvenient. there is a threat to life in temperatures this cold with the advise to breath shallow and do not allow too much ice cold air into the lungs. in all honesty 3 minutes in those conditions and frost bite and hypothermia will kill so the only option is to stay in doors.

I spoke to a customer in Newcastle this week and they were complaining about the snow stopping them from heading into town so this puts it all into perspective. To think I thought Chamonix Mont Blanc was cold a few weeks ago at minus 12.

Its predicted 72% of all Americans will experience below freezing conditions over the next few days As you will imagine Michigan, Wisconsin and Illnois have put safety measures in place for this bitter Polar Vortex, a whirling mass of cold Air Pressure circulating in the mid to upper levels of the atmosphere. Interestingly it usually happens each year but stays closer to the Poles but sometimes breaks apart which sends chunks of Artic Air Southward into The US during what is now likely to be the coldest January on Record.

Stay warm indoors if you can folks.
