Get back In Line!

Was it really a couple of years ago that I sat down in front of the television to watch the news, only to witness grown men and women fighting over supposedly cheap televisions down at their local supermarket? Crowds of people climbing over each other, trampling on the unfortunate shoppers who had lost their footing, ending up on the floor in the melee that followed the doors opening for the first time on Black Friday.

Last year’s events around the country didn’t have the same appeal, but was this down to our shopping habits changing, or the fact that Black Friday is no longer just one day?  With retailers choosing to hold week long Black Friday offers starting the week before the actual day, there is no longer the need to camp outside their local store for hours waiting for it to open, in the hope that they can battle their way through to the crowds to reach that elusive bargain.

How many of you have joined that queue or have waited eagerly for deals to be released online, only to be disappointed that the sofa you’d had your eye on all year is now more expensive than it was in the last sale?!

I must admit I’ve sat online waiting for a certain deal to become live only to find out that it was cheaper a few months ago! So why do we do it ourselves?!

I think it’s our culture. We love a bargain and we love to queue, so put both together and you certainly have a recipe for a potential disaster.

So this year, are we going to witness the chaotic scenes of a few years ago, or will bargain hunters enjoy a more civilised shopping experience from the comfort of their own armchair? Will we manage to find the deal we’ve had our eyes on all year and will it be something we really need or just an added luxury?

So let’s finish with a little statement I read online.

“Black Friday – The day people trample each other for sales exactly one day after being thankful for what they have already have”

Happy shopping everyone! (As you can see I love being dragged round the shops by my lovely Wife!)
