Is it up yet?

That is the question I’ve been hearing more frequently over the last few days. Personally, I don’t think it should be up for as long as some people like, but lots of people seem to disagree. I am of course talking about the Christmas Tree!

You can’t seem to step foot in to any shop in early November without being given a swift reminder that jolly old St. Nick will soon be on his way. Spotting the first tree resplendent in all it’s twinkling glory, humming along to those dated (yet classic) Christmas songs and all the festive food goodies that would burst your belt buckle just by looking at the advertisements. But by the time Christmas has actually arrived, have we been left in festive suspense for so long that it loses some of it’s appeal?

We are putting ours up this weekend, as decided by my wife and I. It’s December, we have a day off together and the children are now starting to get excited, but imagine if we’d put the decorations up earlier!! The endless questions by the children, is it Christmas yet? Is it tomorrow? Their excitement (while adorable) is hard to contain for the 24 days before Christmas, I couldn’t imagine how we would cope putting the tree up in November!

This year we also have a kitten to contend with so we are expecting to be decorating the tree more than once! Any hints and tips to help the tree remain in one piece will be greatly appreciated.

We’ve been a little bit more organised this year with presents, but I’m finding that the list of presents my oldest daughter wants Santa to bring seems to get bigger and change every day. He’s going to be very busy keeping up to date with what to bring because I certainly can’t remember!

As for what I’m asking for this year, well high on my list is socks. I am certain we must have a sock monster (that or the cat has had them, he’s quite partial to the odd sock) because every single pair has a hole in them. I’m finding myself putting together odd pairs so that I can have warm feet and no draft. It’s funny, I remember getting the obligatory pair of socks when I was younger and I didn’t get half as excited as I do now when I unwrap them. The same can be said for a pair of pyjamas, I think I might be getting old!

Happy decorating and Christmas  shopping everyone!
