Life is Suite but not anymore!

If your a regular Suite guest on board then this is for you. As an agent I appreciate that booking a suite can offer you the finer things on board with lots of added little luxuries to enhance your trip, as isn’t this what you pay for? But what happens when on board you start to realise that standards are slipping and the extra little luxuries are not what they used to be and only another cost cutting exercise made by cruise companies.

Booking a Suite on board can be the ultimate in luxury and of course with everything in this world will come at a price. The cost however has always reflected in the service and standards on board and expectations of staying in a suite and paying these prices is high and so it should be. It is a shame then that regular suite guests are starting to notice standards are slipping as are the amenities on offer. I have therefore listed many added extras that come as standard for Suite guests but for some have failed to impress many .

Butler Service – A dedicated Butler to service all your needs from arranging dining venues and times to unpacking your suitcase to fulfilling your every whim, but do they ? Apparently not in some instances, nothing more than just a cabin boy with no effort made to go the extra mile to satisfy your wishes. Ice bucket empty for days and no reall effort made to book speciality restaurants when asked.

Fresh Fruit Bowl – A lovely addition for some guests where a lovely bowl of all kinds of different fruit were waiting for you on arrival and refilled daily, but does 2 apples and a pear really constitute a luxury fruit bowl?

Fresh Flowers , once a lovely vase filled with fresh flowers to brighten up your suite , now lucky to receive a daffodil!

Toiletries – A bathroom filled with expensive bath and shower products but not as expensive and not replenished daily as they once were.

Canapes – Sumptuous delights of little tasters in mouthwatering flavors, now an unappetizing array of tasteless mouthfuls

Fluffy large bath and hand towels – Unless they have been accidentally been put on a boil wash they have definitely shrunk in size according to some guests.

Ice Buckets – If you like a lovely glass of fizz once back in your cabin then ice is a must, not if you haven’t any ice its not, warm champers just does not do it.

I know these may seem like small points for some and individually they really wouldn’t spoil anyone’s cruise but collectively and for many customers used to these little extras  standards do seem to have slipped for Suite Guests. Do you really feel that your getting value for money?. I would really be interested to here from you if you feel the same as some of my customers that these little extras are not what they used to be.

I appreciate that there are many Suites on board many cruises where this may be the minority and I would really appreciate your feedback on your experience in staying in a Suite. Did it live to to expectaions? Didi it give you the WOW Factor. I certainly hope so and will look forward to your responses.

Cheers

  1. We have always cruised with P.O or Cunard in suite accommodation and there has been a marked decline in the extras. Our last cruise was on the Queen Victoria in a Princess suite and the cut backs were very noticeable. As you have said, not things that would spoil your cruise but none the less noticeable. The meanest penny pinching thing in a Princess Grill suite is that you no longer receive a daily copy of the menus; they are still delivered to the Queens Grill suites. Toiletries are not changed daily and one flower in a vase does not constitute fresh flowers. The towels were very hard, small and could never be described as luxuriant, they really were in need of replacement. As for P.O we have now just given up with that cruise line. Do cruise lines really think that long term cruisers, who always book a certain grade of accommodation, will not notice. We are booked in the Queens Grill on the Queen Elizabeth for later in the year and l hope that there will be no more obvious cut backs!
