New To Cruising? Tips You May Want To Avoid!

As we are getting towards the start of Summer, I thought this week I would try to offer some helpful advice to anyone who is cruising for the first time. I had the usual thoughts about packing , excursions etc, but these seemed a bit boring. Then I thought, lets look at what other cruise passengers advise – and let me tell you, I found plenty of advice, some good and some  unusual tips out there on the world wide web – Here are just a few…..

1. If you are travelling as a group – take walkie talkies so you can keep in contact – pretty good idea if you are on a large ship.

2. Tape a balloon to your cabin door so your cabin stands out as you are walking down the corridor – I will let you make your own mind up on that one.

3. If you have any special skills – contact the cruise line before you go as you may be offered free passage if you can give a lecture  – Does playing the spoons count as a skill?

4.   Use the large showers in the spa rather than the smaller showers in your cabin – I think that might be a little inconvenient, walking back to my cabin in just a towel! I may be asked to leave the ship at the next port of call.

5.  Take labelled packages for each port of call – include insect repellent, maps, sunscreen etc – Unfortunately, I am not that organised.

6. Save on wi fi costs – draft and save your e mails before you travel, then send once on board, it’s quick and easy to send – What happens though if what you have saved isn’t what you now want to send?

7. Take a tension rod as this will give you more hanging space in your cabin. As my Husband says to me – pack less, as he has to carry the suitcases.

Has anyone got any unusual tips they can share?
