BEWARE – YOU DON’T KNOW WHOSE WATCHING!

Social Media is a big part of many peoples lives these days. It is difficult to get away from it – arrangements are made, good and bad news posts seem to be on Facebook every two seconds!

In fact, social media is a big part of my job – we all have our Facebook pages, blogs, Google+ accounts – and it’s great. We can advertise our experience, service and what we are about to many more people and it’s cheaper than advertising in the normal media channels.

What about the evil side of it all though? – how many of us have posted details of a new purchase, told all our contacts ” only 2 days now until my holiday – can’t wait “. We do this innocently – we want our friends to share in our good fortune and happiness. So it was with disgust,  that I learned of a sharp increase in the number of homes that are being ransacked and burgled  whilst the owners are away on holiday, all because they have posted a picture relaxing on the beach or even a day out at Alton Towers.

So be very aware of what you publish on social media.

So how do we protect ourselves? It is recommended that you turn off your geographical locator so that if you comment it won’t show where you are in the world.

Be strict with yourself – you may normally tell the world what you have just had for tea, but limit yourself to the number of people you tell about your holiday plans – make sure you only let close friends and family know.

We all work hard so that we can play hard – don’t let the low life’s of the world spoil your holiday.

So repeating those famous few words from Hill St Blues – I am showing my age here – ” Hey – lets be safe out there! “
