From the Monkey to the Rooster – Happy New Year…

As many of you may be extremely puzzled by this title, this weekend saw the celebrations of the Chinese New Year.. 2016 was the Year of the Monkey and now this new year is the Year of the Rooster.. The Fire Rooster to be precise.

Rooster

The Chinese Zodiac is a 12 year repeating cycle each represented by an animal and its attributes.  Each of these animals was chosen as having either a lucky meaning or being closely related to ancient Chinese people’s lives.   The Rooster is one of the six main domestic animals for Chinese people..   There is a lot more detail to this Zodiac including the Yin & Yang of an animal based on its number of claws (or hoofs or toes..),  as well as character traits linking people to their sign.

The 12 year cycle is then also linked to 5 elements: Gold (Metal), Wood, Water, Fire or Earth to give a further 60 Year cycle – this year being the Fire Rooster Year.. Famous people that are 60 this year and were born in the year of the last Fire Rooster include Donny Osmond, Stephen Fry, Jools Holland & Dawn French..The Characteristics of this year include Trustworthy, A strong sense of Timekeeping and Responsibility at Work…. Are you 60 this year and agree with these traits ?

I have discovered that my Husband is an Earth Rooster – Lovely, Generous, Trustworthy & Popular with their friends, all of which I am happy to agree with.  However as he is a Rooster this could be an unlucky year for him – and the best way to avoid this is to wear something Red, so best be getting him lots of pairs of Red socks, although as a Liverpool FC Supporter he does have quite a few Red shirts !!.
