Oasis of the Seas is nearly here!

In Southampton that is!

Hype has been building around the UK with cruise ship enthusiasts on the anticipated arrival of the Oasis of the Seas. She has sailed across to Rotterdam for a spruce up which will last approximately 2 weeks before sailing onto Southampton arriving on the 15th October 2014. Although the stay is only short lived as the Oasis will then depart late afternoon to complete her voyage across the Atlantic back to her home port of Fort Lauderdale.

Her arrival in Southampton will be a ‘big’ day for the port as this magnificent ship will be the largest that has ever docked at Southampton, around 40% larger than any other ship to ever dock. she has a gross tonnage of 225,282 and holds at full capacity 6360 guests plus 2394 crew members! But don’t be put off by the size of this floating country, onboard she offers so much space you will never feel like you are sailing with this many passengers, there are very rarely any queues and you can always find a sun lounger or seat in a bar or restaurant easily.

Oasis of the Seas launched in December 2009, and the current dry docking in Rotterdam is the first that the ship has had but there are plans to now bring her across to the shipyard in Rotterdam for a re fit once every year.

Do you plan on taking a trip down to Southampton to view this fine specimen of a ship ? Or even better are you planning on boarding her in Southampton for the journey back to Fort Lauderdale? If it is the latter I am very jealous!
